Chapter 1
All I could feel was emptiness and darkness. I felt like I could never wake up from it like it was swallowing me up. I woke up to being in my room but it didn’t feel like me, then I remembered we moved to another house. Since we moved I’ve been stuck inside because mother wouldn’t let us leave. My name is Riley, Riley Sorenson. I have a twin sister Sang an older sister Marie and two younger brother’s Eric and Charles. My sister and I are 17 years old, Marie is 19 but she still lives here because mother says she needs her because she couldn’t stand the sight of all the rest of us. “Riley get down here now!” I got up from the bed and started my painful walk downstairs. Once I got there I saw that there was glass everywhere. “Yes, mother?” all of a sudden I was thrust to the floor. “You little brat you think I wouldn’t know, huh have nothing to say well I’ll make sure you never speak!” Then as per usual the lemon-vinegar concoction. As she made me drink I showed no feeling whatsoever. I could hear Sang and my brothers crying but I knew she wouldn’t until she thinks she won but I will never let her think that she beat me. When I finished she got the steak knife. “Well that’s a new one,” I thought. When she got to me I didn’t even move or say anything, but I could hear Eric screaming for her to stop but he is only 5 he can’t do much and plus I rather take this than any of them. Mother started pulling my shirt so my stomach was exposed, then she started cutting words like “whore” or “slut” but I didn’t care it didn’t hurt anymore. She has been doing this for so long now I’ve become numb the only time people will get a reaction from me is when it involves my siblings. “Get up and start cleaning this mess, and you three don’t even think about helping her or you will be punished too, do I make myself clear!?” There was a chorus of “yes mother”. When she left I started cleaning, when I finished I started on making dinner. “Wiwy are you otay?” I turned to see Charles my 2-year-old brother asked. I smiled at him to make him think I’m okay even if I’m not my siblings don’t need to know that. “Yes of course I am.” He came up to me and gave me a big hug. “I wove you!” “I love you too.” Then he went to go play with Eric so if mother came she wouldn’t hurt him. When I got done with dinner I went to my room so I can start reading the book that our dad got me for our birthday last year
