"Before we go, I need your gifts reapplied." Naida chimed and the brothers obeyed, besides Mako. She was starting to feel bad, and worried for Mako and Krait. Maybe she'd let them apply their gifts later today with the other brother's supervision just so she could get the weight off her chest. If she was being honest, she was more comfortable with Krait touching her legs than Ray kissing her lips. Krait could touch anywhere on her legs, it didn't have to be anywhere inappropriate, Ray on the other hand, can only kiss her lips, and that's a little more violating. Besides, it'd be kinda cool to have a tail.
"And we're off!" Mako cheered and lead the way once he was sure Naida was adjusted.
Naida chatted with Shark about life outside the ocean while they followed Mako's lead to wherever they were going, but as she looked ahead at Mako's back, a new question popped into her head. "If it's not too intrusive, how did Mako get that scar?"
Shark looked from her, who was in his arms since it was faster to carry her than for her to swim, to Mako's scar. "Oh, that story's old, but it's one we like to look back on. It's less of a scar and more proof of Mako's devotion to his family. The story is especially special to Krait." Shark gave Krait and Mako a meaningful look behind their backs, then launched into the story.
"We were pretty young, 13 I believe, and we were all practicing our powers. Lionfish was growing the beginning of what now is his personal reef, I was at the surface trying calm the growing waves so they wouldn't disturb the sand that served as the foundation of Lionfish's reef down below, Krait was doing his best to attract animals to live in the reef Lionfish was making, Ray was collecting shells to decorate, and Mako, well, you weren't at the beach today, so he had no way or will to practice his gift, so he helped us in any way he could. We were all so fixed on making this reef perfect, back then, we planned on making it our home." Shark smiled ruefully.
"Life wasn't as complicated back then. All of us knew your importance, but we didn't really care, not yet. It was around the time we were fifteen or sixteen that our lives became more fixated on you." Ray chimed in from nowhere. "Oh, not that you weren't less important back then, by all means, you just became more important over time."
"Can I continue now?" Shark huffed.
"My ears are burning." Lionfish hummed, joining in their little group.
"You're a little late for that." Naida chuckled.
"Well that means you were at least talking about me, so I was kinda right. What're we talking about? How awesome I am?" Lionfish boasted and wiggled his eyebrows at Naida. She rolled her eyes with a smirk.
"Actually, Shark was just telling me the story behind Mako's scar and about how hard all of you worked to build your personal reef." Naida corrected him, rolling her eyes with a smirk.
