Heat.

Unbearable, extremely uncomfortable heat.

Smothered in thick blankets and darkness, I try moving out of the entangled mess.

I manage to straighten up and get out of bed, using the support of the wall to keep me up.

"You're awake." Irene unexpectedly walked in.

"Yeah, the heat was uncomfortable." I replied removing my long sleeved pajama top.

"You should have something to eat. Mom's home and concerned about you being in bed so early." She softly spoke closing the door behind her.

"And? what did you say?" I carefully asked.

"I told her that I don't know. I asked Ella and she had no explanation either." She sat at the foot of my bed. "What's going on?" she interrogated.

"Nothing. I was honestly just tired." I replied. She doesn't seem to fall for it but she nods anyway.

"Come down for dinner, we'll wait for you." She said, leaving the door opened as she walked out.

I didn't expect her to try and push further. We were never too close. She lived in her world and I lived in mine and I'm pretty sure that that is how it would always remain.

"Hey mom," I put on my best smile, walking into the dining room.

"It's alive." my mom sarcastically spoke.

See?

Much different from yesterday.

"Are you okay?" Ella whispered next to me as I took my seat. I smiled and my heart warmed up from seeing her so concerned and I gratefully nodded a yes, with a small wink.

"How's the food?" mom asked, shifting the food on her plate back and forth, with a chalky expression.

"Good," "AMAZING!" "It's great." We all spoke together.

"And you?" my mother spoke again, wiping her mouth with a napkin. "Sleeping in the day, what's happening with you?" she questioned, cutting her meat.

"I was tired. Long day at school." which was not totally a lie. I just did not mention the fact that I fainted. I didn't need another lecture about my health and her forcing me to eat more.
