"BADA BING, BADA BOOM!" Audrey exclaimed, grabbing a few boxes of Skittles off the shelf. They had immediately become her favorite candy from a year prior to when she tried them for the first time. She placed the snacks onto the pile forming on her arm, full of the bare necessities to keep her from going hungry and began making her way to the register. She began humming a nameless tune, adding a little skip in her step as she moved.
"Excuse me, young lady!" A voice called from behind her. The abruptness caught her off guard and she tripped over air, dropping all her belongings in the process. She turned toward the voice alarmed, wondering who had been calling her. "You know you have to pay for that!"
To her surprise, the man hadn't been talking to her and as she realized that, a body collided with hers, knocking the items out of her arms. By the time she whirled around to see who it had been, they were gone, leaving a trail of upset adults in their wake. Audrey's brows furrowed at the strange feeling that pooled in the pit of her stomach and she shook it off, bending over to pick up her belongings. Audrey tried to hold back a sob due at the sight of her crushed Skittles, however, she knew she'd feel awful if she put it back to inconvenience another person so she took it for herself.
"Get back here!" The man bellowed, toward the automatic doors with his arms flailing uncontrollably. The glass shut right before his face, causing the glass to break, and Audrey flinched at the sound.
It was a scene that Audrey deemed as only occuring in thriller shows as if the doors had closed due to a force. Audrey laughed at her imagination and continued on her way.
Upon reaching the checkout, she had already recovered and was bouncing on the balls of her feet excitedly. She shot a charming smile to the teenager ringing her up, but she only received a menacing glare in return.
"So... Do ya like Skittles?" She asked, trying to fill the silence.
The boy looked at her blankly, his eyes dull.
"Guess not..." She mumbled awkwardly.

As Audrey was walking along the sidewalk, a car sped to a stop beside her. The window rolled down the reveal a beat-up Steve Harrington.
"Oh my God, Steve," She gasped.
"Just get in." He said, his eyes expressing all he couldn't say. Audrey nodded and rushed to the other side of the car, entering the passenger seat. She placed her bag on the floor and buckled up. As soon as she was situated, her friend stomped on the gas, plunging the car forward.
"Steve, what happened?" Audrey asked softly.
"Your psycho best friend happened, that's what." He snapped. Audrey flinched slightly and he relaxed immediately. "I'm sorry."
"Why would you guys be fighting?"
"Because he's screwing around with my fucking girlfriend." Steve ground out, as if the words physically pained him.
"Oh.."
"I don't want you around him anymore. He's bad news."
Audrey choked a laugh, shaking her head at his words. She couldn't believe him.
"Very funny." She rolled her eyes.
"I'm serious Audrey." He stated firmly. That caused all humor to cease. Audrey knew he wasn't messing around when he used her name like that. She hated it.
"You sound like my stepmom."
"Audrey please." He pleaded, his grip tightening on the steering wheel in anticipation.
"No, Steve I'm sorry I can't do that." Audrey stood her ground. "He is my friend."
"So am I!" Steve yelled, raising his voice.
"He needs me, Steve!"
"Like how Benny needed you, right?"
And with that, all conversation ended abruptly. It seemed as if time stopped as both of them reeled from the blow. His words caused her to have flashbacks of that night, along with some from the previous night, when she confessed what she had seen to her best friends - minus Eleven of course.
"Addy I didn't mean to-"
"Let me out."
"What?"
"I said let me out of this fucking car right now." She repeated, voice heavy.
Steve sighed, however, he complied with her wish and slowed to a stop. Before he could say anything to talk her out of leaving, she opened the car door and rushed out, slamming it behind her.
Steve groaned and slammed his head on the steering wheel in frustration.
"You're an idiot, Steve Harrington."
