THE THREE OF THEM STAYED STILL AS THE BANGING RELENTLESSLY CONTINUED. Audrey cursed under her breath and grasped her bandaged hand in her other. Nancy turned toward Jonathan and gave him an urgent look as if asking: "What do we do now?"
"Hello?" Steve called.
Nancy gets up in an action of impulse and approaches the door warily. She pulled the handle and opened it, revealing a beat up Steve Harrington. The bruise he once had was now a dark purple and it began to swell up, making him resemble a dalmatian.
"Steve, listen to me." She started, wincing as soon as he was in sight.
"Hey, Nancy? What--"
"You need to leave." She urged, cutting him off. She closed the door enough so that the two other teens in the living room weren't seen. Her plan might've worked if she had been in her own house.
"I'm not trying to start anything, okay?" He breathed out, raising his hands in surrender.
"I don't care about that. You need to leave." She began to shut the door.
"No-no-no listen, I messed up, okay?" He pleaded, placing his hand in the way and holding the door open. "Really. Please."
"I just wanna make things right, okay? Please."
Silence followed for a good few seconds and Audrey thought he might've left until she heard his voice again. This time however, it was laced with concern.
"Hey, what happened to your hand? Is that blood?"
"Nothing, it was an accident." She stuttered, moving her hand out of the way.
"What's going on?" He began to push on the door, worry now etched on his face. Nancy winced as she tried to keep the door closed, having applied pressure to her new wound.
"Nothing." She continued to argue through clenched teeth.
As if bad timing was a trend, Audrey's thoughts were suddenly invaded by memories. She remembered the innocent face of Barb and the conversation they had that night. Then she thought of the cuts Nancy and Jonathan had given themselves to attract the monster. And finally: the jacket the girl had lent her to stop the bleeding. Blood. That was it. It was as if everything began to click into place and Audrey gasped in shock and realization.
All in a split second she saw the world tipping over, however none of the furniture was moving, just her. It was almost as if she had traveled back in time, and relived her hazy state. The second she realized she was falling, was a moment too late and her head hit the floor.
"No Steve!"
But all the boy with the great hair saw was red as he watched his best friend's body plummet to the ground. He shoved the door open the rest of the way and rushed in. "What the fuck did you do to her!?" He screamed, approaching his friend and shaking her.
Audrey snapped out of her daze, reaching for the back of her head as she looked at her friends in shock.
"Steve?" She asked weakly, her tone confused.
He opened his mouth to speak when Jonathan harshly shoved him away. "You need to get out of here." He demanded, hard stare directed at Steve.
"You must be mental if you think I'm leaving her here you."
Steve pushed Jonathan back and he stumbles a bit, regaining his balance with one hand on the table before he moved toward his attacker again. Before he could however, the sound of a click attracted their attention to Nancy who had a gun aimed right at her boyfriend.
