Arsenic

Seeping into
What you slip into your mouth
You know all the chemicals
In it but do you know
That I am also what slips
Into your unknowing lungs.

The soil
Your tobacco
That is in the center
Of that white paper filter.

Tobacco that has absorbed
The metalloid that lurks
Beneath the Earth's surface
Now crawls up the roots
Parasitically gets ingested.

So just remember
Each puff you long to inhale
A silent but deadly poison
Will take your lungs hostage
As it's own
It's new place of residence.
