Afaaf

" I am afraid the pot would lose its steel with you keep rubbing it like that!"

A voice said from behind me and I tilted my head seeing the woman stand with her hand on her hip. Her eyes fixed on me intently. The light from the dining area glowed in the kitchen, making her dark eyes look a shade lighter. And I noticed the way her long hair were pulled in a loose braid which were usually in a simple elegant bun. And those once dark brown stared now salt and pepper. And the wrinkles starting to form on her soft skin.

I huffed out breathlessly before rinsing the pot and keeping it away. The steel making a 'tuck' sound as it made contact with the counter.

Mama reached towards my hands and pulled me out of the kitchen before thursting a glass of water in my hand.

" Drink this!" She said softly taking a seat at the wooden chair making me follow suit.

" What's with you, washing dishes at this time of night?" She frowned and I traced the rim of the thin glass.

" I was getting rid of my frustration!" I said in a blink.

" Acha. And what's frustrating you now." I looked away from her eyes and avoided her question.

" Are you regretting your decision now?" She asked. Her tone soft but the words were thrown like a brick to me.

" No I am not regretting anything."

I said leaning my elbows on the table.

"I am very serious about moving out of here, mama. I want a fresh start. I don't want to suffocate myself anymore." I spoke.

Mama frowned and gave a small nod.

" I am not gonna convince you on anything, you have all right over yourself."

I nodded.

" I just want you to support me."

She stood up and kissed the crown of my head and walked back to her room. Looking at her retreating back, I felt so proud of her. Finally in her twenty five years of marriage she had taken a stand for herself and her daughters. She was given this chance, while many other women still cower away. She just had to grasp at the chance and she did it. And I had all trust in her, I believed in her that after the day, she won't listen to everything her husband says. She wouldn't be blind to decisions and her rights.
