"pete, this is a crazy idea!" patrick pouted as he stared at the devil horns and eyeliner sat in front of him.
"oh, hush! you'll look great!" pete encouraged, putting the headband in patrick's hair. "see? adorable!" he smiled, kissing patrick's cheek.
patrick only pouted more, looking at the figure in the mirror, the flashing horns, messy blonde hair- it felt weird, but reinventing himself as something other than "that guy from fall out boy," had to start somewhere, right?
since the hiatus, patrick had been wanting to do more. write! show the world that he had the talent. show them he had the ability to go out and do all of the things he had done in fall out boy..., but entirely on his own. he had done it successfully. wrote an entire album, produced it, did it all himself, and now he was going on tour. he only needed a look.
so, of course, he went to his husband- who had been so supportive through this whole thing- for ideas. what could this look be?
pete suggested devil horns, with the red suit, and eyeliner.
now it was patrick's first show, and he was still not sure if this could be his look.
"you look amazing!" pete told him, adjusting the bowtie.
patrick gave an uneasy smile. "I'm still not sure. the suit, I like, but the horns? really...?"
the horns were a last minute change. he could easily change his mind and remove them before he went out! problem was, patrick is very indecisive. he could never stick to something, so all through the wait for his call time, he was back and forth. horns or no?
"just trust me. they'll love it. and if they don't, or you don't, this is not something you have to commit to for forever. you can take them off during the show, you could take them off after and never see them again. it doesn't matter." pete said as patrick panicked when he was called to go on.
patrick nodded, taking a moment to calm down before nodding again. "yeah... yeah, you're right." he said quietly.
"mhmm," pete hummed, nodding with patrick. "it'll be okay. just go out there, show them that you aren't just 'that dude from fall out something.' let them see that you are patrick stump, and that you are just as talented, if not more, on your own." he said, giving patrick a smile, a quick kiss before letting him go, and a gentle push to the door. where someone from the venue waited to lead him to the stage.
patrick stared down as he walked with the tall, bald man, stopping for a moment by the stage, staring at the mic stand. he took a deep breath, holding it for a moment, and let it go before running onto the stage only to stare out at the huge crowd in front of him.
they cheered. they were loud. patrick smiled.
he loved the sound of them all cheering for him, genuinely excited to hear him and what he had prepared for them. he felt all of his anxiety leave him as he introduced the new song before singing it proudly, hearing all of the voices sing back to him. sure, lyrics got messed up, but he did not care. they were still learning the songs, and so was he.eventually the show ended, patrick was lead off stage, and back to the small dressing room where pete was. "they actually liked it! the outfit, the songs, the everything!" he said excitedly, jumping slightly as he ran over to pete.
"I saw!" pete laughed softly, hugging the small man tightly. "I'm so proud of you." he smiled, pulling patrick back after a moment, giving him a kiss, to which patrick reciprocated. only to pull back and show pete a huge, toothy grin.
"thank you so much for being here and supporting me constantly." patrick said quietly.
pete nodded, chuckling softly. "of course, 'trick. I love you, I'll support you in anything."
"I'm glad. I love you too."
they had a few more minutes before having to go back to the hotel, and pete took those few minutes to talk about how immensely proud he was of patrick for all that he had accomplished.
