•chapter twenty two•

-matchmaker-

"Hey girls." Lucas greets. I can obviously tell he's in a flirty mood.

"Hey." Jamie plays with her hair. 

I smile at her movement and continue putting away my nail polishes.

"What is that smell?" Nathan asks, covering his nose.

"Nail polish!" I hold up a bottle and show him.

"Smells like chemicals- is this ok to inhale?" He asks scrunching up his nose.

"Yes silly." I giggle. "So what are you guys doing here?" I ask.

"Stopping by." Lucas replies while walking up the porch stairs.

"Just stopping by?" Lili asks.

"Yeah and-"

"Ok. Well you stopped by, bye now!" Opal blurts interrupting Lucas.

"Feisty." Nathan snickers.

Lili, Opal and Nathan find a conversation about some show they like while Jamie tries to impress Grey.

"I think Jamie has a crush on Grey." I whisper in Lucas's ear.

"I think so too." He says looking at them. I look between the two and find a hint of jealousy in his eyes.

"what's wrong?" I ask lightly.

"nothing." Lucas dismisses gruffly. He looks down and makes a sour face.

"Then why are you acting weird?" I press.

"I'm not!" Lucas becomes defensive but then tries to play it off.

I see his jealousy. "Do you have a little crush on Jamie?" I give a knowing smile.

"no." Lucas says waves off.

*cough* *cough* LIE!

"liar." I cough out.

"what?" Lucas says confused.

"Liar." I cough louder.

"Are you even saying anything?"

"LIAR! You like Jamie!!" I blurt out. "Just admit it!" I laugh.

"I just think she's you know, she's cute." He shrugs and then scratches his neck.

"Ha, I knew it!" I think I might be psychic!

"Whatever." Lucas mumbles.

"Go talk to her!" I push his arm.

"No. She's talking to Grey." He spits with jealousy coating every word.

"So?  I'll distract him! Like saying there is- um. We can just join their convo and I'll try to talk to Grey and you talk to Jamie! Boom a plan." I wink up at him. "Trust me."

"Are you playing matchmaker?" He smirks and then tilts his head.

"maybe," I bounce back and forth on my feet excitedly. "Come on!" I say dragging him by the wrist.

"Hey guys!" I greet Jamie and Grey. "Jamie! Have you meet my friend Lucas?" I ask, practically shoving him in front of Jamie.

"I don't think I have." She smiles up at him.

"Well, this is Lucas! We have the same art class and he loves to skateboard. In fact he is painting one!" I smile.

"Oh cool," She nods.

"Jamie don't you penny board?" I question.

"Oh Well I suck." She says shyly and shakes her head.

"I could help you." Lucas offers. "I used to penny board a lot."

"Really!" She beams up. "I really wanna get into it, but I keep hurting myself." She laughs.

Call me cupid, because I am the best matchmaker in town!

"Hi bud." I greet Grey.

He rolls his eyes and looks back down at me with a slight huff.

"Wouldn't they make a cute couple?" I whisper scream, but not loud enough to disrupt their conversation.

He doesn't really reply but I continue talking anyway. "I think it's pretty cute." I smile up at him. "Right?"

"sure." His usual monotone voice replies.

"Right!" I say excitedly. My excitement makes up for the two of us since he is Mr. Grumpy.

"You should meet Opal! She is  just like you I swear. I mean if you were a girl then she would be you and vice versa." I nod quickly. 

"I'm good." He slouches onto one of the pillars on my porch.

"I'm an excellent matchmaker." I wink. "Just look at my future testifiers." I nod to a now giggling Jamies and a grinning Lucas.

"Not looking for anyone." He looks past me.

"Why not?" I ask worried.

Did someone break his poor soul? Maybe that is the root to his grumpiness. 

"Because I'm not." He shrugs.

"weird. ok..."

"We should get going." Grey announces and leans off the column.

"ok." I pick at my nails.

"Bro I think I'm getting light headed." Nathan whines and pretends to wobble on his feet.

"You're a baby!" Lili jokes around with him.

We say our goodbyes and go back inside for a real girls day.

Pizza, movies and ice cream. A dream come true!
