Chapter 152: Identity Revealed

Translator: Sissy That Walk

As soon as he found the current name and address of the Red Fox’s daughter, Chen Yang came to see Chen An. He knocked on the latter’s door but got no response. Thinking Chen An wasn’t in, he pushed the door gently open, only to see the man there in the room.

Chen An sat on his bed with his side facing the door, his forehead bearing a slight frown as if sunken deeply in thought. He didn’t even notice when Chen Yang came in; it was so unlike his usual alert state.

“Uncle! Are you alright?” Chen Yang hurried over, calling him several times before Chen An came around. His eyes still out of focus, Chen An looked over to the young man walking to him and called in a small voice, “Chen Yang?”

“Yes, it’s me. Uncle, what’s wrong?” A moment ago he was fine; what could possibly have happened to make him seem so lost? Chen Yang held Chen An’s hands in concern.

“It’s nothing.” Chen An answered, but he didn’t look it at all: apparently he was preoccupied with something.

“Uncle, do you trust me?”

Chen Yang’s question made Chen An pause. He then smiled, stretched out his hand and stroked the young man’s cheek, “of course I do.”

“I promised you before: no matter what happens, I will always be at your side and never betray you. The promise stands now, and always will.” After a short pause, Chen Yang sat down next to Chen An, and sighed, “uncle, you don’t have to pretend everything is all right when it is clearly not; it will only make me feel… that you don’t trust me.”

His gentle remarks were tinged with a feeling of loss and sadness; Chen Yang genuinely wanted to get to know Chen An, and to let the man know what he wanted.

He couldn’t wait for Chen An to find out for himself; he had to say it, so that the man would understand what he was thinking.

“Silly child.” Chen An laughed and looked over at Chen Yang; when he saw the serious and resolute look on the young man’s face, his eyes hurt as if burned by bright light.

Words he’d withheld rushed forward. Frowning, he asked in a sunken tone: “Chen Yang, has the idea occurred to you that I may not be your real uncle?”

Chen Yang was a good kid; Chen An really liked him, and was willing to teach Chen Yang everything he knew.

But what Ding Sheng said just now on the balcony suddenly sobered him up: was his teaching good for Chen Yang? Smart as Cheng Yang was, he could do a pretty good job whatever he did, yet Chen An brought him onto a terrible path of no return.

“I know…” Chen Yang sighed and took Chen An in his arms. With his chin on Chen An’s shoulder, Chen Yang breathed him in, and said, “uncle, even amnesia can’t turn a man into a totally different person.”

He’d stumbled upon the truth much earlier. Especially after he got into the arms trafficking trade and knew more about Lu Feng, about Ivanov, and about the Brothers Group. He realized then whoever this man was, he couldn’t be Chen Yang’s simple and law-abiding uncle.

Chen Yang had been waiting, for Chen An to open up and tell him the truth.

He didn’t care who Chen An used to be; he only knew Chen An was his dear uncle now.

“Sleep here tonight; I want to tell you something.”

In the room, only the night lamp was on. In the dim light, Chen An leaned on Chen Yang’s shoulders, like he did with Lu Feng.
