Chen An was not really heavy. Although he liked to say he’d put on more weight, for Ivanov, to carry Chen An in his arms was in fact quite easy.

The problem was, unlike what he used to do after he got drunk─all quiet and docile in Ivanov’s arms─Chen An was now like an irritated wild cat, waving his paws and gnawing at whatever was before him.

“Getting cold feet now that you’ve had your fun?” A loud slap landed on Ivanov’s handsome left cheek.

“Not on the face, Old Fox! You hit me again, I’m going to leave you right here!” Carrying Chen An out of the bar, Ivanov strode towards where his car was parked. Onlookers whistled, giving Ivanov the strong urge to hit someone.

“And yelling at me too!” Another quick slap landed on Ivanov’s right cheek. Perhaps because he was drunk, the two slaps left Chen An panting heavily.

As a result, the angry feline that was hitting Ivanov a second ago dipped his head and sagged into Ivanov’s arms. Ivanov, on the other hand, was a bit unnerved by Chen An’s sudden silence.

Placing the man gently onto the back seat, Ivanov seated himself next to Chen An and closed the car door: “hey, baby. Are you okay?”

Ivanov didn’t know why his heart lurched at the sight of Chen An being quiet.

It reminded him of their time spent on the sea─short, precious, and with Ivanov all the time keenly aware that under the hard shell of this man was a sensitive and fragile heart that needed protection.

He loved the man’s unwavering will, his courage, his cunning, his brilliance, as well as his well-hidden vulnerability. He could not resist him. The moment Chen An looked at him with hurt in his eyes, Ivanov wanted to beat himself up for causing it.

Planting light kisses on the man’s forehead, Ivanov smoothed Chen An’s hair: “Thank you, for coming to find me in the bar. So you do care about me, right? That’s the only thing I ask of you, An.”

“Ivan…” the man muttered.

“I’m here, love.” Ivanov clutched Chen An’s hands. Half-kneeling beside the man, he looked at Chen An’s eyes, which were dark and moist with a layer of mist in them. Ivanov felt his heart could break at the sight.

Chen An mumbled: “are you going to leave me?”

“No, I will never leave you, ever. Remember what I said while we were at sea? I, Ivanov, am never going to leave Chen An. I’m going to stay with you, always.” Planting a kiss on the back of the man’s hand, Ivanov had to admit that Chen An had successfully made him feel guilty. The guy always knew how to make his heart ache.

Chen An seemed to have got the answer he wanted. Giving in to the pull of alcohol, he shut his eyes in relief. Nevertheless, he did not let go of Ivanov’s hand in sleep.

Ivanov did not know whether to laugh or cry. But he felt his heart to be so tender at this moment: despite the indifferent and strong facade that Chen An put up out of habit, the guy clearly cared about him and did not want him to leave.

Chen An would not have come to find him alone at night if he really didn’t care about Ivanov.

Ivanov was surprised that Chen An came. Yes, he was upset and feeling morose. So he came for a drink and let off some steam, after which he would go back to Chen An. He had not thought the man would come here himself.

“Damn. Do you know how besotted I am, Old Fox? A selfish man like me, I had the terrible idea: as long as you’re happy, I can do anything for you. How is that possible?” With himself seated in the backseat, Ivanov let out a sigh and again pulled the man into his arms.
