Chapter Eighteen,
Pretty Much Dead Already

The following morning, everyone gathered for breakfast, with Andrea focused on sharpening her knife and Glenn exhibiting an even more peculiar behaviour than usual.

"Um, guys. So...the barn is full of walkers," he suddenly blurted out.

"What?" Chloe exclaimed, her head jolting up.

"Come on, come on," Shane urged as he rushed towards the barn, everyone following and leaving their food behind.

Glenn's revelation about the barn was indeed true—it was full of walkers.

"Why?" Chloe asked.

"You cannot tell me you're all right with this," Shane told Rick, who was as shocked as everyone else.

"No, I'm not, but we're guests here. This isn't our land," Rick said.

"This is our lives!" Shane shouted.

"Lower your voice," Glenn spoke, echoing Chloe's thoughts.

"We can't just sweep this under the rug," Andrea said.

"It ain't right. Not remotely," Shane said. "Okay, we've either got to go in there, we've got to make things right, or we've just got to go. Now we have been talking about Fort Benning for a long time."

"We can't go," Rick told them.

"Why, Rick? Why?" Shane asked him in disbelief.

"Because my daughter is still out there," Carol said, her voice breaking. Maybe it was fear or the fact that her daughter was still out there, or both.

"Okay, okay, I think it's time that we all start to just consider the other possibility," Shane said.

Chloe's mind was all messed up at that point; she agreed with Shane, but leaving Sophia behind wherever she was wasn't the right thing to do.

"We're not leaving Sophia behind," Rick hissed.

"I'm close to finding this girl. I just found her damn doll two days ago," Daryl said, backing him up.

"You found her doll, Daryl," Shane told him. "That's what you did. You found a doll."

"You don't know what the hell you're talking about," Daryl fumed.

"I'm just saying what needs to be said. You get a good lead, it's in the first 48 hours," Shane told him.

"Shane, stop." Rick was trying to prevent the fight before it started.

"Let me tell you something else, man. If she was alive out there and saw you coming all methed out with your buck knife and geek ears around your neck, she would run in the other direction," Shane shouted, causing Daryl to bolt towards him.

"Guys, keep it quiet, please!" Chloe spoke, the men's grunts drowning out her voice as they were already at each other's throats.

"Back off!" Rick shouted.

"Back off!" Rick shouted
