Chapter Thirty Three,
Ghost
"She's out like a light," Hershel told Rick, who entered the cell block that he and Chloe were in, cleaning the woman's wound. "Must be days since she slept."
"You look pretty shot yourself," Hershel said as he stood up.
"How long before she can travel?" Rick asked.
"Have to keep an eye on her. Pretty sure she has a concussion. Couple of days if she's up."
"Whenever Tomas went off, Oscar always stood up for me, you know? He was my friend," Axel told Carol.
"He went out fighting," Rick told him.
"So what now? You think the Governor will retaliate?" Beth asked.
"Yes," Alli said, approaching them.
"Let him try," Glenn said.
"Sounds like he's got a whole town from what Alli and Cody told us," Angie said.
"We're outnumbered and outgunned," Carol said.
"We could use some reinforcements," Brad told Rick.
Of course, they could. Chloe's mind directly recalled the group of people that were outside their cell block when she came back.
It was time to meet them properly.
"I'm Tyreese," the man said, extending his hand to Rick, who refused to shake it.
"Sasha, Allen, Ben," Hershel said, noticing the tension in the air.
"How'd you get in?" Rick asked boldly.
"Fire damage to the administrative part of the prison," the guy called Tyreese said. "Wall's down. That side's completely overrun with walkers."
"How'd you get this far?" Rick asked.
"We didn't. We lost our friend Donna."
"They were lost in the gyms," Carl said.
"You brought them here?" Rick asked his son.
"We both did," Tom backed Carl up, which earned him a sigh from Adam.
"They had no choice," Brad, Tom's grandfather, chimed in.
"I'm sorry about your friend," Rick told the group. "We know what that's like."
"Hershel said you could use some extra hands," Tyreese said as Rick stood there studying him. "We're no stranger to hard work. We'll go out and get our own food, stay out of your hair. You got a problem with another group, we'll help with that, too. Anything to contribute."
"No," Rick finally said, catching everyone by surprise.
"Please," the woman beside Tyreese started. "It's like '10 Little Indians' out there. It's just us now."
"No," Rick repeated.
"Let's talk about this. We can't just keep--" Hershel spoke but was cut off.
"We've been through this," Rick said. "With Tomas, Andrew. Look what happened."
