"I can't believe you didn't let us handle the clown on our own." Robin said, crossing his arms. Batman sighed softly.
"I've told you about the Joker, Robin. And lately he's been worse than before. I can't risk it." Batman explained as they watched from the rafters of the warehouse. Superboy was crouching right beside Robin.
Robin scoffed. "More like you don't trust us." He said bitterly. Batman bit his tongue to keep from responding. Responding further would only cause an argument and that's not what the heroes needed right then.
Joker looked up into the rafters, the same ghoulish grin plastered on his paper white face. "C'mon down Batsy! I know you're there!" He laughed. Batman cursed before motioning for Robin and Superboy to stay put. He jumped down from the rafters, his cape flying behind him dramatically.
"Joker." He said in his monotone voice. Joker grinned even more if that was even possible.
"Batsy how wonderful to see you again! Have you come to free the people?" The clown asked, casting his hand towards three unmoving figures each tied to a chair, which were two men and one a woman.
Batman stayed silent and lunged at the Joker. The clown cackled and jumped out of the way. He landed by an open crate and reached inside. He pulled out a hand-held machine gun. Batman's eyes narrowed behind his cowl, reading to dodge. The Joker laughed and began firing the gun to where Robin and Superboy were hiding in the rafters.
"Robin! Superboy!" Batman shouted in warning. Jon had heard the gun cock before the Joker began firing so he was well aware. He grabbed Robin and rolled to the side, cleanly dodging the bullets. He found himself overtop of Robin and blushed.
"Sorry!" He apologized, removing himself. Robin scoffed before jumping down from the rafters. Superboy flew down to land beside him. Joker eyed them, dropping the now empty gun. It landed with a loud clang on the ground.
"Well, well, well! If it isn't Batsy's little Bird and ohh? What's this?" He eyed Jon. "The Supey's offspring?" Superboy cringed while Robin snickered softly. "I wonder how much it would anger Supey if I killed his son? Then he'd be equal with you batsy! I'll have killed one of you're precious sidekicks each!" The madman laughed. Robin had stopped snickering now and was rather pissed off.
Batman acted first, lunging at the clown once again.
"Superboy, let's free the hostages!" Robin called. Superboy nodded and they moved to do so.
"Ah, ah, ah!" Joker called, now balancing on a thin box a few meters off the ground. "Not so fast! Boys!" Superboy and Robin stopped about two meters from the hostages. Five large figures appeared behind the hostages. "Get 'em!" Joker ordered before re-engaging combat with Batman.
Four of the The Joker's five henchmen began attacking Superboy and Robin while the last one stood beside the hostages.
Superboy jumped backwards, dodging a swinging chainsaw held by a henchman. He used his eyes to cleanly cut the chainsaw in half. This angered the henchman and he lunged forward, grabbing Jon's ankle as he attempted to fly upwards.
Jon grunted and kicked the henchman in the nose with his other leg The henchman howled in pain, releasing Jon's ankle. Meanwhile Robin had knocked out one of his two opposers. Just as he knocked out the second, Jon knocked out both of his opposers. The two boys stood ready to take the last one on.
Batman had handcuffed the Joker who was laughing maniacally. "C'mon boy! Put on a show for the two kids!" He ordered the last standing goon, before Batman knocked him out. Robin narrowed his gaze. The goon saluted in Joker's direction before cleanly slicing off one of the men's arms. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, the man was already dead so he made no sound.
Robin jumped forward, knocking out the goon swiftly. He glanced back. Jon's sapphire blue eyes were wide with horror and he covered his mouth, staring at the disembodied limb as blood spilled everywhere. Jon had been exposed to violence already but he hadn't seen something like this, so this sight made him feel sick.
Damian took notice of his best friend's uneasiness. "Jon!" He dashed towards him and embraced the Superboy. One hand wrapped around Jon the other at the back of the taller's head to attempt pressing his face into Robin's shoulder.
Jon shivered in discomfort. "Don't look." Robin whispered, combing through Jon's black locks. "Close your eyes."
Jon had a tough time doing so, for he felt like he couldn't look away. Robin mumbled soft words of comfort to the boy as Batman called the GCPD. The other two bodies were also dead in the chairs so there was no one to save.
"Robin." He said abruptly. Robin glanced at his father. "Lets go. Bring Superboy back to the cave." He ordered. Robin nodded.
"C'mon Jon." He said quietly. "It's okay."
