Night fell over Arendelle and the group decided to set camp. Carlos collected woods as Hedith looked through the maps she acquired from Anna to check their coordinates. Arendelle isn't as advance when it comes to technology, but they do have the best maps she had seen.
"I told you, you should've brought a tent," Dude said after putting a stick down, "You never listen to me."
"I do, but we didn't know we'll be going on a camping trip," Carlos said and stacked all the firewood to ready it for a campfire.
"You and Kristoff go to camping trips all the time here in Arendelle. How can you not learn---"
As Dude nags him on about bringing a tent, Carlos watches Hedith as she examines the map and her phone alternately. He took this as an opportunity to take in how much Hedith had grown. He can't quite grasp that this is the same person who would dump dumpster cans on his head at the age of five. The girl who plotted a whole chain of pranks on him and Jay at the age of twelve that left them with a broken foot.
And here she is. Seriously planning on a job set by her father and actually doing it for the sake of someone else. She really had grown out of her childish mischief.
Carlos picked up Dude and went to Mavros' other side, "What's up? Maybe you'd like to use your magic to light up our campfire?"
Hedith paid him no attention as she did what he suggested and shoots a blue flame towards the set of wood, giving warmth to the campsite.
"Cold," Dude muttered. Carlos sets him down on Mavros' back and he dangled himself in between the hell hound's two heads.
"I'm wondering how the home kingdom looks like."
"Dark and filled with souls," she said and encircled an area in the map before folding it.
"Emo much?"
"I'll take that as a compliment," she stated and sighed, burying herself into her dog's black fur, "Persephone is the only one who gives the Underworld colors besides black, blue and green."
"Is there also adoption in the Underworld? You know you can actually make Persephone your actual mom, right?" Carlos pondered to which Hedith shrugged at.
"I don't know if I'm entitled enough to ask Persephone to be my actual mom," she answered, deciding to entertain Carlos' attempt for a conversation, "I am one of the fruits of dad's adultery."
Carlos realized that it had just gone down right there. A very sore topic.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean--"
"Nah. Don't be. I'm glad to be able to have a loving mother figure in contrast to Maleficent," she said, smiling at the memory she had with Persephone.
The time she taught Hedith how to do a flower crown and they showered Hades with all the flowers that Persephone created while he's in his office being stressed over work. The time that Persephone brought her to meet Artemis and taught her how to use a bow and arrow. Those little time of bonding had always made Hedith feel so much better.
Carlos realized the difference between Hedith and Mal when it comes to coping with the lack of a loving mother figure. Mal, being the older one, resulted to her mother-in-law and the new people that she had met in Auradon. She created many wonderful friendship, but still loved her mother enough to just make her into a gecko to spare her life.
Meanwhile, Hedith is more introverted and prefers lesser friends than her welcoming sister. She's closed off people and hides it behind constant mischief. But when she came into terms with her sister and friends, she started taking things seriously and became more concious of her actions. Persephone was the person that actually makes her feel...free at some point.
