My eyes begin to tear up, my heart beats faster than it has in years and I ask before I can stop myself.
'Neil?'
He doesn't hear me, my voice being too feeble but he has been staring at me all this time.
Maybe he feels sad? Well,he should.
'Vanessa?' His voice breaks my trance and I turn to see that the receptionist has already left.
Cool. So it's just the two of us.
He gestures for me to sit.
I swallow and sit beside him.
We stay quiet for what seems like hours, before he finally speaks.
'Nessa.....'
'Vanessa 'I cut him off, 'It's Vanessa'
He swallows guiltily, 'I know it- it's been a while'
The audacity, 'A while ?' My voice higher than intended, I let out a small laugh, 'it's been 5 bloody years'
My voice wavers and he inches closer. 'You left without a word, I didn't get a single text or call in 5 years, 5 bloody years, from the guy I called my best friend.'
I let out a sigh ' From the guy who promised he'd never leave my side'
I look away as tears slip down my cheeks.
And just like that I feel the weight of the clouds being lifted from my shoulders.
