Neil's POV:

'Follow me' Xavier ordered as his men casually walked behind him.

Nessa and I smartly left last so that we'd stay out of Xavier's sight.

We knew although that this wouldn't work that he'd target us because we're as Luther said ' the new birds',vulnerable and weak.

Whatever he had in mind was not going to lead to any good, his sick way of calling it fun just added to my nerves.

I just wanted to get over with the mission and leave, their company wasn't giving me good vibes.

I stole a glance at Nessa walking beside me; she seemed calm and awfully quiet.

Her silence was worse than Xavier's noise.

This girl in front of me wasn't like the Vanessa I knew because the old Vanessa would be clinging onto my hand in fear and then she would put up such a show that even the most fearless wouldn't stand a chance against her, this Nessa seemed nothing like that one.

The foul smell brought me back to the present.

Xavier picked up a gun from the table while I looked around, I couldn't tell if this was a prison, dungeon or both.

Sensing our confusion Xavier spoke, "It's a simple task really. All you have to do is pick up the gun and shoot the man in front of you. There are nine of them and all are criminals."

Nine of them, ten of us ?

There was something that he wasn't telling us.

'Anyways Luther' He called his second in command who nodded his head.

'Alphabetical order' Luther stated, adjusting his mask.

'Rue Adams'

The red haired man stepped out of line and shot the man in front of him, not an aorta of hesitation visible on his face, no remorse either.

I felt the urge to puke and I tried to steady my breathing.

How could they just shoot? Without even knowing what the man had done.

'What did he do?' I realized the voice came from my mouth.

'He tried to steal the vaccine' Xavier replied.

'His family had been infected.' He continued.

'There's a vaccine?' I asked.

'Not yet but he thought the government was hiding one.'

I was devastated ,all he did was try to save his family; he didn't deserve to die.

'Platina Jackson,next.'

I snapped back to reality, they reached her already?

Eight of the men were dead,if Nessa was the last shooter that meant I wouldn't have to shoot.

I felt relieved and then immediately felt bad because she would have to.

I looked at Nessa as her eyes widened, fear evident on her face.

She won't do it,I could tell that there her mind and heart were at war and she didn't want to give in.

Kill the man and deal with the guilt for the rest of your life.

Not kill him and risk losing your job and being taken to the lab for experiments.

She'd never forgive herself if she killed the man because he committed such a petty crime.

Neither would I but I'd learn to live with it.

Someday, somehow I'd let go of the guilt.

So I volunteered, 'I'll do it', my voice barely above a whisper.

Xavier looked at me,interest piquing in his eyes as Nessa stopped midway, her shoulders dropping in relief.

'Did I ask you to stop ?' He asked and any sign of relief disappeared from her face.

'As for you,Mr West you won't be shooting and you know very well why.'

Nessa turned to look at me confused, I tried to avoid her stare and act oblivious.

A gun shot was heard as I glared at Xavier.

He knew.

Then it's not too long until Nessa finds out.

What is our man hiding?

Any guesses?

You'll find out soon ;)
