Lucky II [Charles Leclerc]

~12 Week Scan~

Charlotte's hand gripped Charles tightly, so much so that Charles began to wiggle his fingers in an attempt to free them, but when she failed to get his message, he looked to her. She was anxious, that much he could tell, she had been all morning. It was time for her 12 week scan. She had been excited all week, but this morning she woke up with a feeling of dread in her stomach which she had voiced to Charles and he had tried to convince her otherwise, but her mind was dead-set on dialling her anxiousness to the nines. "Char, loosen the grip a bit please." Charles leaned over to her and whispered in her ear, placing a kiss on her temple.

"Oh right, yes. Sorry." She moved her hand from simply gripping his to intertwining their fingers, allowing him to gently stroke his thumb back and forth over the back of her hand. Charlotte redirected her attention back to the doctor who was prepping the ultrasound machine, "When can we know what we're having?"

"It'll be around 20 weeks when we can predict what it'll be." The doctor grabbed a container of gel, "This will be a bit cold. Have you drunk plenty of water?" Charlotte nodded timidly to everything the doctor said, she was simply too eager to voice any thoughts in case it prolonged their waiting. "Perfect!" Charlotte let out a few 'ohs' and 'ahs' as the gel settled on her lower abdomen causing Charles to giggle at her reaction. It was silent for a few minutes until a quiet thumping noise could be heard, "There that's their heartbeats. There is the first head and," She moved the paddle over her stomach, "there's the second one." Charlotte's heart near stopped. Two. She was having twins.

"T-twins?" Charles stuttered out a response.

The doctor raised her eyebrow, "I thought you were aware that it was twins, no?" All they could so was shake their heads, "Oh ok, well they're both healthy, look." She directed their attention to the screen, which was lit up with a grainy, greyscale image. Charlotte's heart suddenly felt so full of love and happiness and judging by Charles' dazed expression he was feeling the same emotions. "They're growing in the correct positions," She saw their confused faces, "It just means that the birth will be easier for you, dear. And judging by their size ... I'd say 12 weeks is about right, but with twins they'll be born before their actual due date, so I expect late November." Charlotte's mouth parted and her eyes widened as she stared at Charles, she knew he was thinking the same thing.

"I'll be home for it, don't worry." He reassured her stroking her hair. "I travel a lot for work, and I'll be in Abu Dhabi around that time, but I'll be home for the birth." He told the doctor upon seeing her questioning glances. She nodded in understanding.

~20 Week Scan~

"They actually look like babies," Charlotte murmured as she gazed upon the small screen to her right while the doctor moved the ultrasound paddle across her stomach, "They no longer look like little squidges." She looked at Charles who eyes were fixed on the screen, she could see his eyes had tears of happiness in them and she carefully wiped the stray ones away that had managed to escape. The doctor pressed a button on the ultrasound machine and the noise of their heartbeats filled the room.

"Lately, I think I felt them moving, but I'm not too sure." Charlotte said, her attention unwavering from the screen. She heard Charles catch his breath. She hadn't disclosed to him about the babies moving as she didn't want him to get his hopes up.

"Any in the last few moments?" Charlotte nodded in agreement, "That's your babies." Charlotte and Charles were mesmerised by their babies. She had never felt so much love for someone in her life, regardless of what Charles might insist, she hadn't even met her children and she already felt like she would do anything for them. "Are you ready to find out the genders?" Charlotte caught Charles' eye. This had been a big debate in their household for the past few weeks, Charlotte wanted to know what she was having but Charles liked the idea of not knowing until they were born. So, they compromised and thus, they were going to find out the gender today.

"Yes!" Charlotte nodded her head rapidly, so much so that Charles used his hand that was grasped in hers to lift her hand and place a kiss on it in order to distract her and calm her down. The doctor laughed at her enthusiasm before turning her attention back to the screen as she glided the paddle across her stomach once again to allow her to get a clearer image of the twins.

"Ah ha!" The doctor stilled her movement and focused intensely on the screen, "You ready?"

"Yes!"

"Congratulations! It's a boy and a girl!"

~Born~

"They're absolutely perfect." Charles muttered as he held their son, while Charlotte held their daughter. They were born just shy of the final race weekend in Abu Dhabi. Charles was yet to leave for the race, so the timing couldn't've been better and as much as he wanted to stay home and miss the race, Charlotte had told him otherwise.

As are the case with twins, they are usually born before the actual predicted due date and so per her doctor's advice, Charlotte had opted to have a caesarean, and so Charlotte and Charles arrived bright and early on the Monday morning and by that night, they had two beautiful babies. Charles was quick to update their families and within minutes was facetiming them all to show them the new additions to the family. They were the first grandchildren afterall, everyone was excited.

The next morning, having had a long and deep conversation, Charlotte and Charles felt it was best to share their news with his fans. They'd all been so supportive of them throughout this journey – though no one outside of their family knew that they were expecting twins, so it'd a pleasant surprise for everyone when they checked Instagram. "There I've posted it." Charles announced setting his phone down. Now they just had to wait and see how everyone would react.
