Maybe I fell asleep whilst reading... maybe. And maybe, when I woke up, I found myself curled up into a ball on a comfortable chair with a book in my lap read about halfway through.
Any plan I had to escape back up to my room before I got sent out there with everyone else was ruined, and I was going to have to just own it. I brushed my hand through my hair and carefully put the book back, noting where it was, before I dared to walk through the library door leading to the living room.
I instantly saw the devil sitting on the most comfortable chair in the room, previously listening to Reggie talk if I hadn't have opened the door. Cassie was stood with him, and Kevin was standing around behind them.
With all of their gazes on me, I crossed my arms. "What?"
Cassie couldn't seem to be able to hide her grin whilst the devil literally rolled his eyes - I had no idea that the devil did that, but it was admittedly amusing to see how annoyed he was that I'd ignored him again.
"Kevin, take her to her room and for godsake lock the door," he said through a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose, eyes closed and brows furrowed.
Kevin went to walk towards me, but I held up a hand to stop him.
"I'm already going, no need for an escort," I drawled, beginning to walk out of the living room. I felt their eyes on my back until I was out of sight on the balcony upstairs. I actually did head to my room, but I had no intention of staying in it for long.
Instead, I found some clothes in the closet and - after a quick shower - got changed into them. I was only just combing through my hair with my fingers when I heard my bedroom door open. I pulled the curtain aside for a moment, peeking out to see Tara in the doorway.
She smiled and motioned me out, so I stepped into the room properly. Her eyes darted down to my skirt before she held out a hand. "I thought you might like to visit Jake. You know... since he disobeyed the devil to let you be here."
"Okay." I nodded, taking her hand and letting her pull me through the hallway. "Jake's in the dungeon, right? What's it like down there if it's better than the prison?"
"Well, in the dungeon you aren't constantly sitting in lava and never dying, you're just... there... alone. I went there once for sleeping with Jake when we weren't supposed to be mingling, but I came out when Corey, Reggie, and Griffin revealed their demons. C- I mean, the devil, was really angry with us all for a while, and now he just leaves us be."
"The devil has an actual name, doesn't he?" I questioned as we began down the stairs.
Tara lifted a finger to her lips pointing at the living room where the devil was still sat speaking to Reggie, Cassie, and Kevin. I kept my mouth shut, continuing to hold Tara's hand, but I knew we wouldn't make it all the way out of the mansion - if that's where we were going - without at least one of them noticing.
Before I could even think another word, I heard Tara's name called out in a booming voice that echoed throughout the entire house. We both stopped dead in our tracks.
"Where are you going and why do you have her with you?"
"Um..." Tara clutched my hand a little tighter, pointing towards the front door. "I'm just going to give her a tour of- "
"You already know you can't lie."
She straightened up nervously and glanced at me before pulling me behind her back. Since I was a lot taller than her, I wasn't hidden at all, but she wasn't too concerned about that.
"You're not supposed to visit someone in the dungeon," the devil reminded her.
"No, not the ones that should be there."
