I woke with a smile on my face.
Because I was happy. It'd been too long since I'd woken up by Colby's side and I'd missed it more than anything else in the world, I'd just refused to admit how much because I didn't want to be so hung up on the devil. After forgiving him, though, I could only see inside of him what I wanted to see.
Fate had told me I was the perfect balance between good and bad. What she didn't realise was that so was her son, only God had made her see him as evil just like he was supposed to be since he was the king of hell and all. God had poisoned her and so many others' view of hell in the first place.
But that wasn't the point. What I loved about my morning was that I got to wake up and have fingers brushing so carefully through my hair that I could hardly feel the tugs of the tangles he was pulling through. For a devil, he sure knew how to be gentle with me.
"Morning, angel," Colby whispered into my ear as he nudged my head with his nose.
I tilted my face towards him. "Morning, fallen angel."
He smiled and kissed me then snuggled into my hair to hide away from the rest of the room. Meanwhile, I looked down to see what I was wearing, considering I still remembered every detail of what had happened last night. Turned out I wasn't wearing much...
"I don't have much to do today besides the usual," Colby said against my neck. "That means I have plenty of time for you, if you're free."
"Since when do I have anything to do?" I replied in amusement, pulling his head out from the crook of my neck. "Don't you want to at least find out about the angels?"
"Do you?"
"Yeah, I want to throw them all into lava."
He smiled and shook his head before pulling himself to sit up - and forcing me to go with him until I flopped back into his bed. I wasn't ready to get up.
"Sam took the angels back to heaven saying they are 'misled' and that they're going to 'correct' them. Something tells me kill and hide that they ever existed is more like it," he explained as he fixed his hair.
"Even the one who stabbed me?"
"No. He's in our dungeons and his wings are in lava."
My eyebrows rose in surprise. Maybe I'd never thought about how the wings of an angel - or a fallen angel - could be cut off; could be mercilessly removed by anyone who got the upper hand on them. The thought was kind of disgusting.
"You can stay in bed all day if you want to."
I smirked. "And what fun is that without you?"
"You make a good point, but I'm not a stay-in-bed kinda guy."
"We did before," I challenged, crossing my arms over my chest.
He gave me a look but I wasn't having it. I reached over and dragged him back into bed with me, snuggling into his chest before he could even attempt to stop me.
