Arianna's POV
I walked out of my room a couple of days later. Or, I tried to. Before I could even make it a couple of steps into the hallway, Colby appeared out of nowhere and looked either way before pushing me back into my room. I let him, even waiting until he shut the door, but before I could ask him what was going on, he pushed me against the wall in a kiss. My heart began to pound as I kissed him back, wrapping my arms around his neck.

This wasn't the first random attack, but it was the first one to happen in my actual room during the daytime. He usually snuck out sometime at night and met me wherever I was at the time, doing almost the same thing. I knew he did it so nobody else in the house knew what was going on between us, but sometimes I wanted to be close to him in front of them. I wanted to stake my claim.

I pulled back a little bit from Colby, staring him in the eyes. "I really want to ask something but I don't know how you'll feel about it," I said slowly.

"Try me."

"What is this?"

I expected him to say something along the lines of a fling, or a relationship, or... well, anything other than what he did say, "I want you to be my queen," which made my heart drop of both fright and anger mixed together. I had known him for maybe a month, if not less, yet he was there telling me he wanted me to be his queen?!

Before I knew what I was doing, I was pushing him back and moving away from him. "What?!"

"I don't have to repeat myself, Ari," he chuckled. He was finding this funny now?! Was it a joke? Was he just trying to make me go nuts? "I think I made my intentions quite clear."

"I thought you didn't want a queen!" I exclaimed, but kept my voice quiet enough that no one would be able to hear me. We had worked hard the last couple of days to keep us a secret despite the fact that I had marks all over my neck - all of which I had to cover with makeup.

"I didn't... until I met you."

My angry, pounding heart fluttered, if just for a moment.

"You can't just assume that I'd be okay with it," I argued softly.

"I never did," he replied calmly. I couldn't figure out how he was being so calm when every cell in my body was going haywire. I was certain that it was for a bad reason, but the more I stared at him, the more I convinced myself otherwise.

"But you- "

"Calm, Arianna," he assured, taking a big step forward. He took both of my hands in his, completely capturing all of my attention. "All I'm saying is that you are the perfect embodiment of what I would look for in a queen of hell, and if I were to choose anyone, it would be you."

My pounding heart began to slow.

"I still don't really want a queen because I'd rather rule hell on my own, but I'm afraid God won't let that happen much longer. I'll need you."

"I'm not a powerful being."

"You would be if you became queen. Not literally, but figuratively. You'd have the power over my army just as much as I do and you'd be able to command the mindless, too."

My eyebrows rose in surprise. The mindless were a group of demons just like everybody else but without a thought process of their own, hence their name. They could fly and had claws capable of slicing through knives, yet they were a bit dumb. They were expendable and powerful at the same time. It was a huge advantage to have them, and even more of one to be able to control them.

"You know, if you want a queen, I'm all ears," I joked. Colby smiled and shook his head, lifting both of my hands to his mouth.

"Not yet. But soon." He went to kiss me but before he could get close enough, there was a knock on the door.
