Chapter 14: Choice D

You sighed.

"I just had a stomach ache," You lied, wiping your stray tears. Maybe that wasn't the best excuse, but now you had to play along with it. You know, using your expert actress skills. But you convinced yourself that you could do it.

But it'd be tough.

And don't forget that the setter is smart.

"No, I-"

You were quick to interrupt him, your weak voice straining to sound normal. "Hey, Suga, I wasn't paying attention during class, can you give me your notes?"

You grabbed your backpack, sniffling, hoping that changing the subject would ease his suspicions. Maybe it was too sudden? You scrambled to get supplies before you become too much of an open book.

Taking out your notebook, you realized that he hadn't replied.

"You don't have to lie about it, (Y/n)."

"Pshh. Lie? Me? Whaddya mean, I'm perfectly fine, don't worry bro," You say too loudly, your voice wavering the slightest bit. You mentally face-palmed. Reader-chan, was the 'bro' really necessary?

You smiled, trying your best to keep yourself from shaking.

Yes, award-winning acting skills I tell you.

But maybe... maybe it wasn't your 'acting skills' that got you through life with as little worries from others as you did.

Maybe nobody pried deep enough to find out what was going on.

Maybe Sugawara really did care.

"You don't have to explain what's going on, but at least let me know how you're really feeling," He said.

"I already told you," You smiled, shutting your eyes to hide how teary they were. "I'm fine!"

"Anything but fine," He stated simply. When would he just give it up? You sighed, slightly curious of his intentions.

"Why did you come find me?"

"I-I was worried," Suga replied sheepishly. "You looked lonely, and now I'm even more worried. You can talk to me you know. Whatever you're going through, I'll help. Just know that you're not alone. You're never alone."

You looked down at your legs as he leaned over you to grab something. What could you say to that?

"Suga-san, thank you, but I'd appreciate it more if you just gave me your notes-"

"If you're fine then I guess you wouldn't mind me reading these texts that the teacher was talking about during class," Sugawara concluded.

"Of course I'd mind! Why wouldn't I?!" You blurted, jolting up at the fact that he was staring directly at the texts you tended to ponder over. "Hey! That's an invasion of privacy!"

You reached for the phone before he could read anything more, but he pulled it up to a height at which you could not reach. You should've called Hinata from the concrete over to snatch it back, but, at the moment, he was way out of your reach.

"Ohoho, so it's boy problems..."

You let out a little "eep!" as he continued.

"Haha, is he your boyfriend or something?"

"Suga!" You reached again closer to him to get him to stop, causing both of you to tumble onto the ground, crashing on top of one another. You giggled in spite of the situation, earning one from Sugawara as well. He was still holding you phone, however. You reached for it again, to no avail.

"Give me the damn phone!"

"That's rude, be polite," He teased.

"Koushi, give me the goddamn phone, please."

The name had just slipped out of your mouth. Meanwhile, Sugawara was sitting there, blushing, admiring the way his name sounded when you uttered it.

"A-Ah! Suga-san, I'm sorry-" You were cut off by a very loud...

"TOBE FLYYYYYY-"

You chuckled awkwardly, taking the opportunity to snatch the phone, answering it immediately eager to use the voice on the other side of the line to escape the lingering uncomfortable atmosphere.

"Uh," You started, realizing you never saw the contact. "H-Hello?"

"(Y/n)?"

Yay!! Done!! Sorry Choice D was so long, I had to keep scrapping and rewriting it since I never really liked how it sounded.

Anyways, sorry it took so long, I just started my freshman year of highschool and I'm still adjusting!
