For the first time in ages I didn't have anything to do today. There was no one to save, and no one to fight.

It was going to take a few days for Bonnie to get back. Providing our plan worked. I was trying not to overthink it too much.

I took the morning to myself, I had a long shower and let myself unwind. Then I took my time getting myself ready, had a nice breakfast and the just lounged around the rest of the morning.

Although the calmness was nice and I did enjoy my own company, I had a horrible tendency to overthink everything when I was left alone with my brain for a while. With everything that had been happening recently my brain was having a field day.

As usual there was no one home today. Caroline and Stefan were both gone at Caroline's vacation home, she was setting it up for Liz to spend her final days in. Personally, I think it doesn't matter where you spend your final days, more who you spend them with. Damon was with Liz, helping her tie up some loose ends at her work.

There was only one person left to take my mind of things. Honestly it wasn't like he was my last choice anyway. I had started to look forward to my next meetings with Kai. When I was with him it was like I didn't have to pretend to be anyone else than who I actually was.

"You free?" I typed into my phone before sending.

Thankfully with Kai I never had to wait long for a reply. He was also practically always free because I was his only friend. A couple minutes later he answered back.

Cobra Kai @ 12:35 : "Always. You want me to come over?"

"Yeah. See you soon."

It was so easy with Kai. Any plan or conversation happened so quickly, and I never had to worry about my words with him.

I looked at the time and started thinking about how long it would take for him to get here. He'd probably head straight here, so just how long it took to drive here.

That's when I realised I actually had no idea where Kai was staying. Anywhere in mystic falls took a maximum of 15 minutes to get here though so it wouldn't be long.

I walked over to the nearest mirror and made sure I was looking okay. Happy with what I was seeing, for once, I smiled at myself in the mirror. I heard a car rolling down the drive and practically ran to the door.

Kai was pacing towards the door as I threw it open. I gave him a smile and he waved back at me. I had started to notice my heart slightly speeding up every time I saw him. In a good way though, not like it used to.

He finally reached the door and I let him inside.

"Hey." I said.

As he brushed past me in the door I noticed his scent for the first time. He smelled manly, expensive. It was almost addictive as it faded away when he walked past.

He wore his usual jeans and T-shirt with a grey zip up hoodie over the top.

"Any big ideas for today Maddie?" He teased.

"Nothing exciting." I laughed.

"You mean no saving a cancer patient or jumping through worlds while almost being killed by my sister?"

"How boring." He smirked.

I giggled. Now I could actually appreciate his wit

"How are you feeling? You know after Liv."

"Don't worry Mads. Your blood healed me up, back to normal." He assured me.

"Good. Can't have you leaving me." I teased.
