Five minutes of cold silence passed before Alaric even opened his mouth. He leant against the wall on the opposite side of the corridor to me staring at his shoes.

"What are you even doing with Kai?" He spat.

"Everyone deserves someone Ric." I reasoned.

"Not Kai! Not after everything he's done." He yelled.

I was so sick of hearing the same argument that I finally snapped.

"After everything he's done! So it was okay when Stefan piled up bodies in his ripper years, perfectly fine when Elena turned off her humanity and killed a waitress. Fine when Damon killed Jeremy, Zach Salvatore, Lexi!" I yelled.

"God, Damon turned your wife into a vampire so she could leave you and you still became his drinking buddy!"

Ric just shook his head and stormed off down the hall. Okay, maybe I went a little too far but I was telling the truth.

Everyone here was quick to forget that we all had done terrible things too. The only difference was we had all been given a second chance. Some of us had been given a lot more than two chances.

Just as I felt my anger rising I heard an argument arise in the examination room. I listened in, just in case I needed to jump in to break it up.

"Dad just text, guess whose not sick? Him, Liv, and I'm feeling pretty fine, which leads me to believe I'm not gonna die anytime soon. So what's you're game?" She yelled.

"I don't have a game!" Kai argued.

"Is this all just a ploy for you to get more magic?"

Kai laughed in disbelief.

"It's a ploy for us all to stay alive actually!"

"I don't believe you!" Jo shot.

"Because you're a liar! And you're the worst kind of liar, because you're lies sound so much like the truth it's impossible for me to tell the difference." She added.

"You're right. I am a liar. Alright." Kai yelled.

"I'm the black sheep. The defective twin that nobody wanted. Must feel real nice for you to stand there judging me, surrounded by all the things you got out of life while I spent 18 years in isolation as the family reject."

It sounded as if he was struggling through tears as he fought with her. My heart twisted and I could feel tears prickling the back of my own eyes.

"And let me tell you something, every inch of me wants to kill you for that. Every part." His yell was deafening.

"But I can't." He whispered.

"The only way I can survive is if you help me. I'd like to live, frankly, because I didn't get to do a whole lot of that before everyone decided that I wasn't worth it."

A moment of deafening silence passed.

"I'll give it to you." She stated.

"On one condition. You take it and stay the hell out of my life."

With that she burst out of the room and straight past me down the hall, presumably looking for Ric.

I crept in the room to see if Kai was okay and found him sitting on the bed sobbing into his hands.

I walked right over to him and immediately embraced him, placing his head on my shoulder which he cried into.

A few minutes later he lifted his head and began wiping tears from his face as though he was embarrassed. He grabbed my hands and gave me a small smile which didn't translate to his still teary eyes.
