Chapter 22

“Hey!” Zoe said as she smiled brightly as we both exited our dorms, I returned the smile and waved to her as well “Want to join me for some coffee?” she asked as she put her phone away in her bag “I was going to meet my brother there, with his roommate.” she added and I nodded softly

“I’d love to, coffee sounds great!” I said with a giggle and she nodded as we walked together and left the university, I glanced around, up, down, wherever, my eyes just wouldn’t stop looking around! There was so much to see!

“I take it you’ve never been to New York?” she asked with a slight laugh as I shivered since the cold New York air hit us with a breeze as we stood at a crosswalk, we waiter for the ‘WALK’ sign and we followed the crowd 

“What makes you say that?” I asked and she laughed

“You stare at everything in such awe!” she said dramatically “I’ll have to take you on a tour, soon! There’s so much you need to see!” 

“Have you lived here before?” I asked and she shook her head as she stopped at the door of a local coffee shop and opened the door, I heard a bell chime as we walked inside

“My family and I used to come here every summer and New Years.” she said with a shrug “I love it here, though. It’s so wild!” she exclaimed and I laughed as I shook my head, we made our way towards a booth in the back and I nearly did a double take. 

“Jase?” I asked in confusion, he glanced up and stared at me wide eyed with confusion also “What are you doing here?” I said with a laugh 

“Here with my roommate.” he said, pointing to the guy next to him, which I’m guessing was Zoe’s brother “You?”

“Here with Zoe.” I added, we both chuckled at Zoe and her brother’s confused expressions

“How do you two know each other?” Zoe asked and I laughed

“We went to high school together.” I said with a sigh “And were maybe, sorta, best friends.” I said jokingly and he put his hand up to his heart as he gasped

“Hurtful!” he exclaimed and I giggled

“Well that’s great!” Zoe said as she clasped her hands together “Ava, this is my older brother, Daniel.” she said, the guy stood up and I noticed he towered over me, he was actually slightly taller than Chase. Stop thinking about him. Anyway, he had beautiful brown eyes and dark brown hair, kind of like Zoe did, very attractive might I add.

“Nice to meet you.” he said as we shook hands, I nodded slightly when his strong hand gripped mine. I noticed he had tattoos on his arms, not a sleeve, but close. “It’s comforting to know my little sis made a friend so soon!” he said as he flung his arm around Zoe’s shoulder, which she threw off with an eye roll

“Don’t start, Danny.” she warned and he laughed as he kissed her cheek. We sat on the booth, I was next to Zoe’s brother and Jase was next to Zoe. I noticed he couldn’t stop staring at her, and she blushed slightly when their hands slightly touched. WAIT. Zoe was the girl Jase was crushing on? And vice versa?! Oh, this is gold! I shot Jase a knowing look as I smirked, he looked down with a blush and then mouthed ‘Later’, I nodded before returning to the conversation. “Oh, Ava! I almost forgot! My brother’s in a band and they have a show tonight, want to come?” she asked and I blinked as I glanced at her brother, who was sipping on his coffee

“You’re in a band?” I asked and he nodded with a smile

“We’re not major or anything.” he said with a shrug “But we have a small fan-base that always come to our shows and it’s just… nice like that, nothing to big.” he said with a chuckle
