Maya POV
The next morning the kids went to school and I convinced Josh to come with me to the apartment. I walked in and immediately all the memories came flooding back. I could see when I first moved here and I thought this place was amazing. Then when I was 15 and Josh would sneak through the window. We would snuggle on the couch for hours until my mom would come home. I smiled at him trying to go through the window without being seen. Finally came the worst memory of all. The day my mom kicked us out of this apartment. It felt so long ago, so much has changed in those 5 years. I turned to Josh I'm going to clean out my room first. I walked in and took a deep breath. It looked just the way I left it, I could feel the tears building up. I walked over to my bed and opened the drawer on my table. Inside was a small box that I'd never seen before. It looked like it use to be a jewelry box, but the top in swirly black handwriting had MAYA written on it. I opened it slowly and all that was in there was a small folded piece of paper. I unfolded it and immediately recognized my mothers handwringing. It read
Dear Maya,
By the time you're reading this I'm probably long gone. I'm sorry things had to end like this between us. You were my pride and joy and I made the biggest mistake ever kicking you out. Congratulations on only being 21 and having a better life for your children than I ever gave you. I know how much Ashlyn, Gavin and the twins will love you. Even though I was never the best mom I still wanted to help out. So enclosed under the velvet is a a check for a house that I bought about 20 minutes from here. It's really nice and has 4 bedrooms. I've left some money left over in case you want Riley and Lucas to buy a house near you. I love you baby girl have an amazing life.
~ Your loving mother Katy~

I nearly fell off the bed when I read this letter. My mother the lady I thought hated me and was crazy left my family a house to live in. My hands shook with anticipation as I reached under the velvet and felt the crisp paper between my fingers. For once she wasn't pretending she was serious. Josh came in as I examined the check. Hey Maya I thought you were- I shushed him. Josh come look at what my mother left us! He read the note and then examined the check. Maya he yelled happily we found a house!! I nodded I know and she left money for Riley an Lucas to buy a house right my us!! We hugged each other and then started cleaning some more. For once in my life I was completely happy. I had an amazing husband to-be, I had amazing kids and now my mother has left us a house. Maybe having Ashlyn wasn't the biggest mistake of my life.

Okay so I sorta wanna just skip the funeral because you know sad feelings😭. And I've never actually been to one so I don't think someone with no personal experience should write about a funeral. Also I'm just so excited for the wedding!!!!
