(6) Not Invited

Three months later 

It was two days before labor Day weekend Bucky and Aubrianna were making out in his bed. "Mmm I've gotta go tell you something." He said 

"What?" She said 

"This weekend is the yearly Barnes family trip. All of my family goes to Lake Tahoe for the weekend.." he said 

"You wait till two days before to tell me we are going on a trip." She said 

"Whoa no no.. remember this is fake much to mother's dismay. You aren't invited to go..that's not why I was telling you. But since I'm going to be away for the four day weekend. I've set you up with some plans..that won't make it look suspicious granted nobody really knows about the family trips. But still so Natasha you met her and her husband Matt at the cocktail party for Steve's birthday back in July. All of the girls are going to a fashion show this weekend so I figured you could enjoy a girls weekend. So here are your tickets and backstage pass." He said 

"Oh..thanks." she said as she took the envelope. 

"We better get up and get ready for work." He said as she got up before he finished his sentence. 

"I'll drive myself.." she said as she left the room to go get dressed. 

"Aubrie.." he said as he followed her. 

"What's the matter now? I did something nice so you had something to do all weekend and you can stay here..maybe actually sleep in the bed." He said 

"It's nothing okay! God maybe I'm just not a morning person." She said as she pulled a dress out and got ready for work. 

"Aubrie I know that this plan isn't ideal. But look the deal went through and I'm still working out a few more kinks. Can we just play along till I'm done." He said 

"It's whatever..I'll continue to play pretend." She said and left the room. 

When she got to work she locked her door and hid under her desk. Her phone was buzzing it was him asking if she wanted him to stop and get her something since she skipped out on breakfast. But she ignored his messages as she fought back tears. She finally pulled herself together and began to work on a new advert for the company. 

During lunch Bucky came down to her office and laid a sandwich on her desk. "Are you mad cause you wanted to go or are you mad cause I made plans for you?" He said 

She looked up at him. "James I feel like you are bossing me around. Which is fine when we are here..but what if I wanted to go see my mom." She said 

"Doesn't she live here in NY?" He said 

"No see this is the problem you know nothing about me. And I don't want you to cause this is fake and we don't have to know all the personal details about each other. Once this is over I'll go back to being just your PR lady." She said 

"Okay..I'll leave you to your work and lunch. I just wanted to make sure you were alright.." he said

"Yeah I'm fine ..here is the sample of the new advert by the way." She said as she pulled it off the printer. 

"Thanks. I approve of it." He said 

"Great." She said as she sent the approval to the publishing company. 

Late Thursday night Bucky kissed her temple before he left for Tahoe. All weekend she didn't text him back much. She had a blast at the fashion show with the girls and having sushi lunch on Saturday. She joined the girls for brunch on Sunday as well. When Bucky returned home late Monday night he found her asleep in the bed. 

The bath tub had clearly been used when he saw the candles and wine glasses by it in his bathroom. He took a quick shower and carefully climbed into bed without startling her. She woke up the next morning to find him not trying to cuddle her he was asleep on his stomach staying on his side of the bed.

She looked at her ring as she twirled it. Bucky made her jump when he said "You have a nice weekend?" 

"Yeah.." she said

He scooted closer. "You stayed here?" He said 

"Yeah..you have a tub." She said as she got up. 

She went to eat breakfast and get ready for work.
