Βασιλεία Ῥωμαίων / Imperium Romanum, or commonly known as Byzantine Empire stood as a beacon of civilization during medieval Europe. With its magnificent capital, Constantinople, it safeguarded the customs and values of ancient Rome and Greece (part of). Yet, the empire faced relentless aggression. The Bulgars threatened from the North, while the Persians and later the Arabs posed formidable challenges from the East. Gradually, the empire's position weakened, and its demise seemed imminent. But destiny took a dramatic turn with the ascension of Basil II, following the passing of John I Tzimiskes. Under Basil II's reign, the empire experienced a remarkable resurgence. Bold and decisive, the emperor launched campaigns that saw the Byzantines reclaim lands both in the East and the West. As his power solidified, a rebirth of strength and prosperity swept through the empire, igniting the hopes of its people.
