When You Cry

My emotions went from shocked to furious to curious. My mind was moving at one hundred miles per hour as I stared at my mother who sat next to me in my car.

"Get out" I finally sputtered, the anger conquering all of my other emotions. She had left me, kicked me out. My own mother had abandoned me because I was different and here she is just showing up out of no where without warning. That was not okay.

"Emma I know you're mad-" my mother began, putting her hands out as if to soothe me.

"Yeah mad doesn't even begin to cover it" I growled, clenching my fists. "You left me to fend for myself. You, my mother, got rid of me because I was different! And now you're here why? To try and make up for it?!" I shouted. I glanced down, noticing the blue orbs beginning to appear again. I quickly sat on my hands, clenching my eyes shut. I took deep breaths, trying to make them go away.

"No" she said slowly. "I'm here because of that" she clarified, pointing at my hands. I felt my mouth drop a little bit, completely shocked. How did she know that? How did she know anything about me? I also felt a pang of hurt. She was only here because I was dangerous. Not because she felt bad for kicking me out or because she missed. Simply I was getting too strong or something and she needed to take care of it.

"H-how did you know about that? What on earth do you mean? I thought you didn't know anything about the supernatural, that's why you kicked me out" I began throwing questions at her as they popped up in my mind. It was as if my whole world was changing. My mother almost looked sad for a moment as I spoke the last part of my sentence.

"No that's not why we kicked you out sweetie" my mother said, laying a hand on mine. I pulled it back, a look of shock coming over my mother's face.

"Don't" my voice trembled, my eyes filled with tears. "You don't get to come back here and call me sweetie and be all mom like. You got rid of me and nothing can change that" I bit my lip, trying to hold my tears back. My mother side, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"No we made you move out because you had powers, just like your grandmother did. We saw that you developed them and we didn't want them evolving" my mother exclaimed. What? I hadn't even known my grandmother.

"Wait these-these powers are genetic? I-I thought because of the river..." I began to trail off, getting tangled in my thoughts.

"No well yes. Both" My mother answered, trying not to confuse me. "You see, the power runs in our whole family, but one must die and then be bathed in water to trigger it. Your grandmother got hit by a car when she was two. Her family had known about the ritual so they decided to do it. Then she had powers" my mother explained.

"So you guys chose for me to have powers? You made the decision to put me in that river" I said slowly, terribly confused. She nodded.

"It wasn't worth losing you" she offered a warm smile, which I declined. She sighed, knowing I wasn't going to be so forgiving. Not after she hurt me that bad. "Anyway, we didn't know if the power would show up so we waited. When you saved your father, we knew we had to do something" my mother continued the story.

"Why? What was so bad about me living there?" I asked, the anger rising yet again in my voice.

"Because, the river the person was revived in was said to give them more power the more they were around it. I mean the river was practically in our back yard!" My mother exclaimed. "Your grandmother had developed these powers that she couldn't control. She hurt people and had to be put down. We just didn't want that to happen to you but.." my mother glanced down at my hands.

"You are not killing me" I growled, clenching my fists in case I did have to use my powers on her. She chuckled shaking her head.

"Don't worry. I wasn't planning on it" she laughed, her blonde curly hair bouncing. I didn't find any of this funny. This was my life, my sanity. "My old friend Deaton and I are working on a way to help you control it. He was the one who heard about your growing new power"
