23: Task Failed Successfully

(Y/n)'s Period: Day 5

Tanjiro sighs softly though his nose as he pulls off the towel hanging around his shoulders. He pulls open the door to the hospital ward and closes it softly behind himself once he enters.

Inosuke and Zenitsu were already asleep, but you were listening to music on a low volume as you drew while sitting on your bed.

You look up at the sound of the door opening and closing and smile at Tanjiro in greeting. He smiles back and makes his way to you. You put your phone on the drawing and get off your bed. You set it down on the floor to get one of the trays of food sitting on your night.

"Come and eat, Tanjiro." You say quietly.

Tanjiro's heart swells in gratitude and admiration as he climbs up to sit at the foot of your bed. You hand him his food and a pair of chopsticks before getting back on your bed to get your tray from the nightstand.

"Did you really wait just to eat with me, (Y/n)?" Tanjiro blushes.

You smile at him with a raised eyebrow, "Um... I'm just going to assume you gave me a complicated thank you."

Tanjiro hums absentmindedly in response.
You wait for him to finish his prayers before you eat.

You know... you miss Mexican food. Maybe you can go into a town or village one day and look for ingredients for a dish you've been craving recently.

Japanese food was really fucking good and all, but you were an American, dammit! And you want variety!

Tanjiro couldn't stop looking at you, his chopsticks missed his mouth a few times because he wouldn't tear away his gaze.

Wow, one is thinking about food, and the other is thinking about romance. Classy. Who said romance was dead?

He kissed you yesterday, and he tried again later the same night. Even though Aoi had told him to wait and get to know you more before he tried again.

It wasn't his fault, it was impulsive! But Inosuke had thought he was attacking you, then Zenitsu accused Inosuke of breaking the Bro Code... whatever that was.

Tanjiro really wanted to try again, but you haven't even mentioned it, well not like you could, but you didn't try to kiss him.

What if you didn't want it to begin with? What if you were trying to be nice about it and not mention it?

No, no, no. You were interested in him, too, Tanjiro was sure of it.

Two years ago, in the small town he was selling coal at, there were these two people who were interested in each other. And the way they smelt whenever they were around each other would change into a sweeter one.

It was similar to the scent you had when you were with him and only with him (At least, so far, but Tanjiro is confident that, that will not change).

Oh, but you were from the future and a different Universe.

Still, Tanjiro believes courtship can't be that different in your original Universe, right? You court someone with the intention to get married; that hasn't changed, right?

Tanjiro likes to think he was a considerate person, at least compared to most people he's met. So he didn't want you to feel forced, or rushed, or anything negative.
