Day 31

"Can you please turn around, (Y/n)?" Akaza pleads.

You mumble, "I don't want to look at you."

"(Y/n) I-"

"-I don't want to look at you cause I've always fucking hated you, Akaza." You lie effortlessly.

You can feel the atmosphere get painful as you know your words have been heavy for Akaza to take in.

You were sitting on the left side of the cave, and Akaza was sitting on the right side. You requested for distance, so Akaza gave you distance. You had moved in your spot so that your back was facing the demon, waiting patiently for the sun.

You were in your Demon Slayer uniform; socks, sandals, and hairpin.

And Akira's hand guard, sitting on your lap.

Last night, you begged and begged Akaza to let you bury Akira's remains. Akaza jabbed his fingertips at the side of your neck, it caused you to faint.

When you woke up, you were in a new cave with a fresh change of clothes, and Akira's hand guard.

Akira's carrier crow had seen you, whether that crow knew who you were or not, didn't matter. You and Akaza relocated again the same night, though the mark on your arm grew in size and gradient.

You wonder why Akaza never mentioned the mark to the Upper Moons, or to Muzan. It was a blue spider lily, though it was just a mark, it was still vital information.

Maybe that was Akaza's fucked up way of protecting you.

You can see the sun rays peeking through the trees.

"The sun is going to come up soon," Your voice was unintentionally gentle, "And you're going to let me leave."

"I don't want you to go." Akaza whispers.

"I never wanted to stay." You reply.

"I didn't mean to upset you."

"You let Akira die, Akaza."

"How was I to know he was a friend of yours?"

"Friend or not, he was still a person."

"I couldn't have let him go once seeing me, anyway." Akaza retorts.

"We could've quickly left before he had the chance to grasp the situation." You supply.

"I'm sorry I couldn't make you happy." Akaza genuinely apologizes.

"It doesn't take much to please me," You admit.

"Love is hard work." He said.

"It doesn't have to be." You counter.

Akaza sighs through his nose: "(Y/n)."

"...What is it, Akaza?"

"I love you."

You feel extremely bitter from hearing Akaza say that.

Ever since the festival, Akaza wouldn't tell you he loved you.

Instead, he'd only say it if he thought you were asleep. Which was more often than not.

Akaza's tone was soft and gentle. And so full of love when he said "I love you", it was too much.

This is the first time he's telling you knowing you're awake.

"You don't love me," You mutter, "You can't."
