The Author COULD spend time and go into detail about what happened the next day. But you all read the manga, didn't you? And even if you didn't, consider this as the Author's mercy because it wouldn't have been an interesting read to just rewrite it all. Nothing different happened from the manga.

You and Tanjiro traveled to the forest to find the secret weapon, and found Muichiro beating up the 10 year old sword-smith, Kotetsu. When you and Tanjiro tried to defend Kotetsu, you both got your ass ate.

Mostly Tanjiro, though. You were lucky enough that Muichiro didn't knock your dumbass out.

You told Kotetsu to stay with Tanjiro as he was unconscious, since you were going back to the village for a moment.

You knew once Tanjiro woke up, Kotetsu would put the redhead through hell with the training doll. It'll be in your best interest to prepare snacks and fluids to give to Tanjiro in secret because that's your fucking baby.

You could spend this time training yourself, and you will, just not with the doll. You're not an idiot, you have no business being a Demon Slayer, and your willpower to better yourself yet not actually doing it is a major flaw of yours.

But man...

At this point, you're just waiting for this all to be over. Is that a bit depressing? You're just really tired of this line of work you're in. You were not made for this, literally.

The lives that slipped through your fingers is proof enough that you're not made for this.

Would Gerik forgive you for wanting to give up? Would Akira be happy that you're putting your life above others? Would Aimi be relieved that her sacrifice in trying to save you was not in vain if you retired? Would Akaza be repulsed by your display of weakness?

Quitting the Corps and living with Miku sounds....like a very tempting retirement plan.

Or... Or returning to your original home.

You still have no idea what route you want to take. If this was some romantic fanfiction, the obvious choice would be to stay to live out some harem dream.

But you love your family, and you miss them dearly. The feelings you didn't know you had for Akaza until he was ripped away from you were unbearable sometimes. Simply staying here was a constant reminder that he won't suddenly show up to save you anymore.

And it's not as if you can talk about it with anyone, anyway. He was a former Upper Moon who's murdered and consumed hundreds of lives.

"Hey, I'm in pain because I was in love with Akaza and now he's gone, and it's probably my fault" is not really a good conversation starter with your friends.

And Kyojuro...

You plan to move back in with Kyojuro once this little arc is completed. You need to talk with him about what exactly happened that night, and from what little Tanjiro had let slip during your time together, Kyojuro had been affected by the event for "some reason".

When you spot Miku's house, you slow down to a stop.

Staying here did you more harm than good, and it was hurting the people you cared about. Thinking back to the very beginning, you would've never imagined this is how it would all turned out.

You duck your head to hide your face in your hands.

(Someone next to you clears their throat, their very deep voice indicates it's a man.)
