Omniscient
______________

Perhaps Elena Jean Clairmont was foolish for her barriers of flame and snow to leave back into her body but she was staring right into the grey, cold eyes of Draco Malfoy so it didn't matter.

It didn't matter because he was here and was not going to pick a fight, not this time. She couldn't believe her eyes.

He was here.

Elena had known he was alive but knowing he was out there in a big castle, probably having guilt eat him alive, the same way it had been doing to her for nearly a year, felt horrible. And now, he was here.

She hated it- him- for making her so grateful that the one person who had never called her selfish, cowardly, draining, was here.

Elena Clairmont was grateful that Draco Malfoy was here and even in her own head she couldn't explain why.

But she loathed him for it. It was comforting, she would never admit it but it was. To Elena, hating Draco Malfoy the same way throughout the years had never waivered or gone away. Just knowing it, made a path in the abyss she was shoved into.

"Don't you want to begin, Malfoy?" Elena looked over to him, his bored expression unfaltering.

His eyebrows raised. "Surprised you don't want to ramble on. I was trying to be civil and let you speak, Clairmont."

She didn't so much as smile or roll her eyes. "I can barely stand to look at you right now. I'm not talking until you go first, I made that mistake already." Draco couldn't help but clenched his jaw. He had never spoken a word of what Elena had said to him with utter confidence.

Why would he? Why would he even say anything to anyone about it? It didn't make sense to him. Draco Malfoy would have never cared enough to spark rumors, they were beneath him. He didn't even care if he woke up in the mornings, much less if Elena Clairmont were to get broken up with. He didn't want anything to do with her and yet, he was sitting next to her, inhaling her intoxicating scent.

"Why haven't you been in class?" Elena spoke quietly, making sure her shield of wind was intact and strong. Her hands sat in her lap as she moved away from him. The amount of disgust and hatred piling in her gut made her want to vomit once more. She hated looking at his stupid face.

It reminded her of everything. What she had lost because of him. Her boyfriend, friendships, trust of her entire house, her secrets. But it reminded her of what could have been. A twisted friendship, small glances, understanding.

He was supposed to be the one who understood her the most. The one she knew she would hate but would listen. It wasn't fair to Elena to have lost everything. And she felt miserable since the moment she had pinned Draco against the tree. Elena knew the cost of having to agree to be a pawn in the game of war. She knew she would have to put up with being around Malfoy but it was worse than she ever could have comprehended.

Elena knew she would be damned the moment she could smell him, see his face, hear his bemused voice. He reminded her of all the things she had lost. And it was the worst feeling, even when she realized that she would finally get to speak to him like before.

Draco watched Elena Clairmont move away from him and lean against a tree in the meadow. His hands were itching to wring her neck for moving away from him. Was he that bad? He didn't bother to care anymore- not that he did before or anything.

Draco Malfoy would never care for Elena Clairmont.

Instead of showing anything on his face, he simply shrugged. "Don't feel like going to classes when we all know we're going to die before seventh year."
