Draco Malfoy sat in front of the fire burning in the fireplace, running his finger over the rim of his glass. The amber liquid glowed as it sloshed and neared the edge.

He had pulled a chair up to the fire- an attempt to warm himself up even though it was failing poorly. Besides... The fire was needed as a reminder.

It was the closest thing he could get to being around Elena. Especially after last night, he needed this. He needed to see a kindling of a fire and remember what she looked like and felt like... He didn't like when she wasn't around.

And he absolutely didn't like it when she ran away and left him thinking that he had done something wrong.

For the entire night and following day up until now, he still racked his brain, pouring over the events of last night in search of the fault he had made to offend her so much until she ran away and when he had caught up with her, she Disillusioned herself and Harry.

He grit his teeth, wrapping his hand around the glass. Not even Firewhisky helped dull the overwhelming sensation he felt.

What. Had. He. Done.

A burst of fire sparked through him as he flashed back and remembered Elena's horrified face once his Patronus had disformed again.

As hard as he could, Draco threw the glass filled with Firewhisky into the fire, shattering the glass and the flames surged.

He shoved his chair back, letting it hit the floor and the sound echoed in the empty common room. He didn't care if anyone heard and came to investigate. He would surely throw them into the damn fire as well.

His hands ran over his face. The touch repulsed him.

Every touch repulsed him except for hers... She had been the first one to never lie, never cheat, never play with him the way others did. She had been the first one who hadn't grown afraid at the worst times in his life.

Everyone was absolutely worthless... Except for Elena.

Fuck!

"Are you alright, Draco?" Daphne had come down the stairs upon hearing a large thud and shatter but kept her distance until Draco was visibly shaking.

He didn't even know why he was shaking. But there was a feeling in his chest that told him something bad was going to happen.

Something was going to happen to Elena and it wouldn't be good and he knew better than to rely on his dead heart but he felt it echo through him.

Draco straightened, smoothing down his hair. Normally, he wore it slicked back but he had let it fall messily wherever it pleased itself.

"Shouldn't you be in Theo's bed?" Draco scoffed. "Go be a little savior to someone else."

Daphne came closer at his words. It wasn't the smartest thing to do.

As she reached out a hand to tap his shoulder, a simple effort to see if he was alright, she paused and stiffened. She would not beg for him to reveal his feelings. She would not grovel and certainly wouldn't entertain his little temper-tantrums because Elena hadn't been seen today.

She folded her arms over her chest, brushing back her blonde plait. "I am a person, Draco."

He shut his eyes for a moment, trying to regain control over himself. He wasn't right in the head now because everything was moving too quick and there were too many thoughts. Too many doubts and insults spitting back at him.
