"W-what?" I asked as my eyes widened. "I'll explain more when you get here, just get here as fast as you can." Sam said as my stomach churned. I grabbed the flower pot that was sitting on the table in front of me, then threw up in it.

"V? Are you okay?" Sam asked with concern as I shook my head. "N-no." I whispered and put my hand on my chest. "It's gonna be okay. I have to go so I can hopefully get some updates, bring someone with you and get here safely okay?" Sam asked calmly as I nodded.

"Text me the address." I whispered then hung up as Kat came into the hallway. "Violet?" She asked as I looked at her with panic in my eyes. "Colby got hurt. We have to go." I said frantically and grabbed my keys.

"Woah! Hold on. You need to at least wipe your face off." Kat said and stopped me from rushing outside. "No! I have to go, Kat. I-I can't lose him." I said as she shook her head.

"You're not gonna lose him. You need to calm down." She said then looked down at the pot that was still in my hands. "Did you throw up in that?" She asked as I nodded.

"Yeah..." I said as she shook her head. "You need to calm down. Come on." She said gently then took the pot and set it down before leading me into the bathroom.

"Sam didn't say how hurt he was...what if he dies? Kat I can't handle it if he dies. I just got him back." I said as she frowned and got a wet wash cloth, wiping the dried face mask off of my face.

"Don't freak out until you have to, V. Let's get you cleaned up then we can go." She said then handed me the washcloth so she could get the others.

As soon as she left I looked up at the ceiling. "Please protect him." I whispered to my guardian angels as I wiped my face off.

Once I was cleaned off I made my way out to the foyer again. "Come on." I said and grabbed my keys. "I'm driving." Devyn said as Ki took my keys and tossed them onto the table.

"I can-" I started but was interrupted by Ki. "No you can't. Come on." She said and dragged me out to the car.

I couldn't concentrate as we drove to the hospital they were at. I couldn't stop thinking about all of the things that could be wrong. I knew he had anxiety about being in the water and losing control.

What if he drowned?

"Violet!" Ki said and clapped in my face. "Sorry." I whispered and shook my head. "We're here." She said as I took in my surroundings. Devyn had pulled up to the ER doors so we could get out and she could find a parking spot.

Kat and I got out the made our way inside and to the waiting room. "Sam!" I called out as he nervously paced around the waiting room. "Violet." He said then hugged me.

"What happened?" I asked as he pulled away. "We were surfing and he got pulled under and stuck in a current...he was slammed into the rocks along the shore." He said as my heart dropped.

"When we got him out of the water he was unconscious...he's..he's in surgery right now." He said as I nodded. "Surgery for what?" I asked trying to keep calm.

"His back and neck. He snapped three disks and probably has a concussion." He explained as I sighed. "Is he paralyzed?" I asked, not wanting to know the answer.

"They aren't sure." He said as my eyes watered. "O-okay." I whispered as he pulled me into his embrace. "He's strong, V. He's gonna get through this." He said as I rested my cheek on his shoulder.

"I'm so scared." I mumbled as Ki and Devyn joined us in the waiting room. "I know..I am too." Sam said quietly and just held me.

We eventually settled into the chairs that were set up in the waiting room.

Sam called Colby's parents and made an Instagram story updating the fans on what was going on.

The entire friend group came to keep us company but I couldn't focus on anything but the nerves in my stomach. I wanted to stay calm but every minute that we didn't have news felt like a lifetime.

Every time the door would open I would pray that it would be news about Colby but it never was. We waited for hours before people started going home since it was getting late and they wouldn't be able to visit him anyways.

"Why is it taking so long?" I whispered as Sam took my hand and held it. "They might not be able to update us because we aren't family." He reminded as I nodded. "I just want to know if the surgery was successful." I said and looked up at him with glassy eyes.

He opened his mouth to answer but was interrupted by the door opening. "Colby Brock?" The nurse asked causing us both to stand up. "Family?" She asked as we shook our heads.

"Girlfriend and best friend." I said as she chewed her lip. "His family is in Kansas..." Sam said as she nodded. "Okay, well his surgery went well. He's still not awake but if you two want to come back you're more than welcome to." The nurse said as we nodded.

Sam held my hand tightly as we made our way back to the room. When we got there I could feel my heart shattering at the sight of Colby in a neck brace with a bandage wrapped tightly around his head.

He had an oxygen mask on which led me to believe he swallowed some water.

"Oh.." I breathed out and walked to the edge of the bed, taking his hand in mine. "I'm so sorry, V...we shouldn't have pushed ourselves so far. This is all my fault." Sam said as I shook my head.

"No...you guys were just being adventurous. Accidents happen. It's nobody's fault." I whispered and kept my eyes on Colby's face.

I let out a deep breath as a nurse came into the room. "What are the extent of his injuries?" I asked, finally ripping my gaze away from his face.

"Well, the impact was enough to fracture two of his vertebrae on the base of his spine. We assume he's got a intake of water in his lungs, so we have him on oxygen so he won't drown if there is some in there." The nurse explained as I nodded.

"We had to put metal plates on his spine since the vertebrae were so shattered." She said as I closed my eyes. "What are the chances of paralysis?" I asked as she shrugged.

"50/50 at this point. He's got a concussion and swelling of the brain which should be going to down because of the medicine we are giving him. As long as he has function in his hands in feet he will most likely have a full recovery." She said as I nodded.

"Thank you." I said as she checked the IV he was connected to. I could feel the anxiety bubbling in my chest as I looked at him. I was so scared of losing him like I lost everyone else but I was trying so desperately to keep myself together.

I hated crying and I hated thinking the worst.

He was gonna be okay.

"Want me to give you a minute with him?" Sam asked as I nodded, my face scrunching with pain. "Okay. I'll be right outside. Take your time." Sam said then left the room.

"Hey, baby....I know you can hear me so listen up. You're gonna be okay. I know this is scary and you're in a lot of pain but you're gonna be okay. I love you so much." I said and kissed his hand.

"I'm sorry I wasted so much time being afraid...I'm sorry that I left you alone for so long. It was selfish and stupid and I'm so sorry." I said and started to cry.

"You have to be okay." I said and squeezed his hand. "I know you can feel that, because you aren't paralyzed. You're going to make a full recovery. You're going to." I said, trying so hard to believe the words I was saying.

I didn't know if he would be okay. I didn't know if he would have real long term effects from this.

All I knew is that I was going to stay by his side and be with him through it all.

I wasn't going anywhere.
