A few years later............

"Harris !!!"

17 year old Harris jolted awake from his sleep as his mother barged into his room. The door slammed into the wall, and the sound of impact reverberated through the walls.

Stupefied for a moment, he stared at her red face glistening with tears. Then Jumping down, pushed his slippers on and ran for the door.

He didn't need to stop and listen to what his mother had to say, he knew.

Running to the neighbor's house, he pressed the door bell so hard his finger turned white.

The gate opened revealing uncle Faizan and Vania, both in their sleeping pajamas, eyes half lidded. A usual reaction for 1:00 am in the morning. But as soon as they saw Harris all the traces of sleep were gone.

"Uncle, Baba ki tabiyat phir se bohat kharab ho gayi hai, please jaldi aa jayen.." he said quickly and Faizan complied running with him. While Vania went in to tell Khala jan.

It had been six months since his father's health began deteriorating, quite suddenly.

Starting with a minor heart attack and constant high blood pressure. The doctors informed them it was a genetic heart defect that was showing itself in his late thirties, and his only saviour was an open heart surgery.

A surgery that required more money than he had.

Faizan was ready to help however Abdullah needed and so did Hafsa's brother.

However, Abdullah was too stubborn for his own good.

***

This is time however Faizan promised himself that they would send him for surgery as soon as he stabilized not heed any of his words of protest.

Hafsa kept her jewelry with her so that if they ran out of cash, she had something to give to Faizan to save her husband.

***

But sometimes, no matter how timely you reach the hospital and no matter how hard you pray for your beloved. No matter how good the doctor and how excellent his reputation. No matter anything.....Your dear one just isn't coming back...

Because that was how it was fated to be.

Because that was the end for Abdullah.

***

It wasn't that he didn't love his family dearly, or that he didn't want to live. But he was too stubborn in accepting the financial help that would have saved his life.
