Chapter 28:

Ally’s POV:

I paced back and forth for what felt like the millionth time as my gaze flickered out the window of Liam and I’s room once again. I’ve basically been doing this since he left. I can’t help but feel worried even though I know there isn’t supposed to be a fight tonight. My mate and my brother are both out there though and I wouldn’t be able to handle losing either one of them, much less both. They’re my life.

I sighed and finally plopped down on the bed, afraid that I would wear a hole through the floor if I kept up my pacing. I closed my eyes and tried to think positively but it was hard. I opened them and glanced over at the clock. I really should be sleeping right now, but it’s been so long since I’ve slept without Liam that I’m finding it hard to be without him.

A noise outside made me shoot out of bed. I looked out the window and smiled when I noticed Liam’s men emerging from the woods with women and children with them. I wasted no time in rushing down the stairs and out the door, making my way towards the group as quickly as possible.

I beamed at Ethan as he approached me while I looked around, waiting to see my mate and brother. By the time he had reached me my smile had dimmed a bit, as I still hadn’t seen Anthony or Liam. I looked at Ethan questionably and his eyes said it all. They weren’t with them. My smile was now replaced with my quivering lips as I fought to hold the tears back.

“Where are they?” I whispered quietly but I knew he heard me. He sighed and ran a hand shakily through his hair before looking back at the trees as if Liam and Anthony were about to suddenly emerge so he wouldn’t have to explain anything to me.

“We were all ready to go when Liam noticed that Anthony hadn’t returned from retrieving his mate yet. He didn’t want us to just stand there waiting in case we got caught so he told us to go on without him and he would wait for Anthony. He knew that if he came home without your brother you would be extremely upset and he would never do that to you or leave a man behind in enemy territory.” Ethan said and I was glad that he didn’t sugarcoat anything or try to make me feel better. He just told me how it was and I appreciated it.

I just nodded at him not knowing what to say, and less than a second later he was rammed into by a blond ball of energy named Leah. I smiled sadly at them missing Liam even more. I walked back to the house and sat down on the steps staring into the forest hoping that any minute now they would walk out.

I tried not to watch as mates greeted each other and welcomed them home with hugs and kisses. It saddened me to watch because that should be Liam and I right now, but I don’t even know if he’s alright.

I try to tell myself that he promised and he would never break a promise to me, but fear still crept up my spine. The minutes were ticking by and barely anyone was still outside. It was pitch black except for the dim porch light illuminating part of the yard and shining light on a few remaining families.

Soon I was the only one left out here, but I couldn’t bring myself to go in. They were coming. They had to be, and I would sit out here all night if I had to. I was going to wait for them as long as it took.

My heart rate began to pick up as I began panicking more and more as time went by. It may have only been a couple hours but it seemed like eternity. I willed myself not to cry. I cry entirely too much and I was trying to stay strong. If I was going to be Alpha Female I would have to be tough.

My hard exterior was about to crumble and shatter when I heard a rustle from the trees. I lifted my head in hope and strained to see or hear anything else. I began to feel disheartened when nothing happened but a minute later two figures emerged from the woods, one carrying another body.

I jumped up and rushed over knowing that it was them. I sprinted forward and Liam met me picking me up in one of his familiar bear hugs that I love so much. He buried his face into the crook of my neck as he set my feet on the ground and held me tighter.

I breathed in his scent happy that he was home and that he was fine. I knew he would keep his promise. He would never let me down.

We embraced for a few more moments before I pulled away and gave Anthony a side hug since he was carrying a girl who seemed about my age and size. It was obvious by the way he looked down at her in love and adoration that she was his mate.

She had golden brown hair that seemed to end at her shoulders and flawless slightly tanned skin. Her lips parted in sleep as she cuddled closer to Anthony. I smiled at him, happy that he would now be happy. He deserves it.

“I’m going to take her to my room. I’ll see you two tomorrow.” He said quietly before disappearing into the house.

I turned back to Liam and couldn’t resist hugging him again. I mumbled into his chest, “I was so worried about you. I didn’t know what to think when everybody else came back and you were nowhere in sight. I tried to stay hopeful and strong but you don’t know how hard it was. I knew deep down though that you would never break your promise.”

Liam picked me up bridal style and stared down at me, love shining in his eyes. “I’m so sorry baby. I had to make sure that your brother was ok. I never would have forgiven myself if he didn’t return because I know it would have crushed you. I will always do everything in my power to make sure that you are happy. I’m just sorry that I made you worry so much.” He said while carrying me to our room and I just reached up caressing his face when my small hand.

“I love you so much. Thank you, Liam.” I said tiredly before yawing loudly. Liam chuckled at me, and I smiled sheepishly. “I couldn’t sleep without you.” It was true. Without Liam here the bed felt cold and lonely and I couldn’t put my mind to rest without him next to me holding me close to him.

Liam set me on the bed and carefully undressed me handing me his favorite shirt before he stripped down to just his boxers. He pulled the covers back and we both settled in facing each other. “I love you too baby. And I promise there will not be very many nights ever where I’m not here when you go to sleep and when you wake up. Now, I know you’re tired so rest now. I’m not going anywhere.” He said and pulled me as close as possible his warm breath blowing on my cheek and his heartbeat lulling me to sleep quickly.
