[Coffee Shop AU]

• He believed in love for as long as anyone could remember. He wanted to be wanted for as long as anyone would remember. He wished upon stars, and wished on the air of romance. •

BEEP BEEP BEEEEEP!

Slamming his hand down onto the alarm clock, Francis groggily tried to sit up. He barely managed to sit up, his mind was still so sleep induced. After about two minutes of sitting and blinking, he could function enough to get up and get dressed.

"Morning Francis." His sister called cheerily.

"Ugh, whatever, you morning loving satanist." He replied, still exhausted.

Francis was an angry morning person, he didn't see why mornings even existed.

After a little while of angrily bantering with Joan, Francis headed to work. He was a barista at a local coffee shop. It was a side job while he got his masters in marine biology.

Entering the shop he smiled halfheartedly, "hi Ella." He called weakly.

"Hiya, Francis." Ella called in reply. Her strawberry blonde hair was pulled into a loose ponytail and her Cafe Infinity uniform was slightly wrinkled.

Frowning, he clocked in and grabbed his apron.

Getting behind the counter, he begin taking orders. He saw lots of pretty girls who caught his eye, but none were what he was looking for. This was probably because he was gay (just saying).

He had given up on love after his parents passed. They had been old souls their entire lives, and had passed naturally, nothing tragic to tell. While he was watching a particularly cute guy, he zoned out and only now realized his co-worker, Arthur, had been calling his name.

He then turned to face the cute British guy who had called to him.

"Francis?" Arthur asked again.

"Oh! What? Yes?" Francis questioned, blushing slightly with a chuckle.

Arthur laughed, "I was wondering when you take your break."

Francis raised his eyebrows, "a-are you asking me out? During my break?"

"I-I meant so we could talk." Arthur said, surprised but clearly amused.

"Oh, shit. Sorry. Well, in that case I usually around 10:20am." Francis sheepishly replied.

Arthur nodded, "great. I suppose I'll see you then?"

Francis smiled widely, "of course."

"Uh, was that good enough for you?" Arthur blushed slightly and it was absolutely precious.

It made Francis want to cry, it was beautiful to him. "Yeah, that was great." Francis smiled sweetly at the blushing Brit. Who, was being called to by Ella, a co-worker.

As he laughed to himself, Francis continued with his work.

He hummed along to the radio as he washed a some of the ceramic mugs. The ding of the door alerted him to the front. A man had entered, Francis studied him, he had choppy brown hair and green eyes.

"Hi, I'd like a vanilla bean cappuccino."

Francis nodded and told the man his total.

He then made the cappuccino. He gave it to him as Arthur entered, he watched Francis and the man before speaking.

"Francis?" Arthur called.

"Yeah?"

"Ella wants you." Francis nodded and walked to the back after waving to the man.

"You wanted me Ella?" Francis asked, curious.

"No? Who told you I did?" Ella asked, amused.

"Arthur did." Francis replied still clearly confused.

Ella giggled, her brown eyes sparkled happily. "You've been lied to! I guess it's okay though because Arthur thinks you're cute, he talks about you in the sweetest way possible!"

Francis fiddled with his apron still not comprehending. "R-really? Why did he lie?"

Ella laughed, "He was probably jealous! The cute guy whose order you took was checking you out. Now go get your man!"

Francis nodded, and walked back to the front.

Francis checked the time, 10:05. He had fifteen minutes to kill before he left for his break.

The man had left and Arthur was managing the crowd. Francis opened another register for some of the people. The crowd split and people came to Francis, after a few minutes it slowed down, and Francis and Arthur took their break.

"Where should we go? We have fifteen minutes." Francis said, Arthur said they should just talk, and Francis agreed happily. The two talked about family life and their careers and everything in between.

They started taking their breaks together every day.

After two weeks, Arthur asked Francis out.

"Francis, I Uh, really like you, and if it's possible, would you, maybe want to go out sometime...?" Arthur questioned, at the end of their break one day.

Francis smiled, "yes of course!"

They exchanged numbers and returned to work, happier and less alone.

----- 9 Months after ------

Francis sat alone in a church, he hummed, the rehearsals were going well, Arthur hadn't seemed to mind that Ella was the maid of honor.

Sweet Ella bounced in, she smiled at Francis before sitting next to him. "Franci, Arthur's so happy. He can't stop babbling about your wedding."

Francis smiled, "it's his wedding too."

Ella laughed at herself before she started again, "You better show up. Arthur would be crushed."

Francis blinked, had Ella just threatened him indirectly?

"Of course I'm showing up. I love Arthur and that's all that matters right now." Francis stated firmly.

Ella smiled once again, "great! After all, as Arthur's best friend, it's my duty to make sure he's not hurt."

Francis nodded, "Best friends do that for each other-" He then looked at Ella, confused. "Wait, I thought you were my best friend?!" He cried.

Ella laughed then winked. She got up to leave and Francis got up to follow, still protesting.
