Queenie hid behind the corner as Soren exited his office. She rushed in after he left, crouching at her sister’s side. “Miri… why didn’t you tell…” She held her close as Miriana sobbed into her shoulder.

“Queenie!!” Miriana clenched her shirt. “I’m… I’m so sorry.”

“No, you don't apologize.” Queenie lifted up her sister’s head. “Don't you dare apologize. Soren should be in here begging on his knees for your forgiveness.”

Miriana didn’t reply, sobbing harder into her sister’s shoulder. “Miri,” she stroked her hair, “why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was scared that if anyone knew, then he’d hurt them too…” Miriana wrapped her arms around Queenie, sobbing. “I don't know what to do.”

“Well, I do.” Queenie helped her off the ground, wiping her sister’s tears. “You’re staying with Charles tonight.”

“Ch-Charles?” Miriana stammered.

“Don't act like you don't love him.” Queenie smirked, tapping her nose. “Does he know what Soren does to you?”

“He just knows he’s rude to me, not the abuse. I was worried if I told him he’d want to kill Soren. If that happens, then Soren will have him killed!” Miriana began to hyperventilate.

“Let’s go find Charles.” Queenie slowly walked her out of the room, holding her close. Queenie kissed the top of her head. “Don't worry, Miriana, he’ll pay.”

Raelyn paced back and forth. Ever since Evan ran off she’d been worried sick. “What if he gets lost, Ivory?” She raked her fingers through her hair.

“Mommy.” Ivory yawned, rubbing her eyes. “Evan’s okay, I can feel it.”

Meanwhile, Jerald walked down the hallway, carrying Evan in his arms. “Where’s Mommy…?” he muttered, lifting his head slightly.

“I’m taking you to your mama, kiddo.” Jerald patted his head. “Just go to sleep.”

He knocked on the door. In a flash, Raelyn opened it with a sigh of relief. “Oh, thank the gods!” She took Evan from his arms and cradled her child. “Thank you, Jerald..”

“Of course.” He smiled, kissing her hand. “Anything for you, mi fresa.”

“What does that mean?” She blushed.

“It means strawberry,” Jerald translated, his fingers softly stroking hers. “So, Raelyn, I was wondering-” Before he could continue, Ivory ran towards him and hugged his leg.

“Jerald!” She cheered, pulling him inside. “Are you staying with us tonight?”

“Oh… um…” He glanced up at Raelyn who was still blushing.

“Um… su-” Raelyn began only to be cut off by her son.

“Mom,” Evan groaned, shifting in his mother's arms. “No… don't hurt Mama…”
