I get out of the shower, and grab a towel and wrap it around me. I crack the door, and see the clothes Tyler's letting me wear are right by the door. I snatch them and put them on. Obviously they're too big. But I just tie the sweatpants as tight as I can. And I just leave the shirt that reaches my mid thigh be.
I walk out of the bathroom, as I'm putting my hair in a messy bun. I walk out of Tyler's bedroom and see him making food in his kitchen.
"Oh, hey."
I walk over to the kitchen and sit at the kitchen bar.
"Do you like grilled cheese?"
I nod.
"You know your neck cut is bleeding right?"
My hand goes straight to my neck, and sure enough I feel warm stinky liquid.
"Do you have something I can use to stop the bleeding?"
Tyler hands me a few paper towels so I press them to my neck.
"So are you going to tell me how that happened?"
"Bonfire gone wrong." I lie. That's the lie I always use whenever my dad gets to me.
"And what about the cuts on your hands?"
"I was weeding our garden without gloves." I lie again.
"Mhm. And why were you all bloody earlier?"
I haven't come up with a lie for that yet. Crap.
"Uh..."
"Oh, don't have a lie for that?"
I cross my arms.
"Why the hell are you even paying this much attention to me? It's gonna end up getting me in trouble."
Tyler hands me a grilled cheese sandwich, and I start eating.
"Should I be worried?"
"No. Nothing's wrong."
See, if anyone finds out my parents abuse me, then all my adopted siblings will go back to foster care. And I can't do that to them. Because they may hate me, but I can't do that to them.
That's one reason why I go through hell everyday, because I don't want them in a bad place.
"Raven..."
"You don't even know me! Stop trying to fix everything about me. Ever thought I don't want to be fixed or helped? Ever thought there's reasons for going through what I go through?"
I take a deep breath.
"Yeah I know that. And I'm sure you have your reasons for everything, but being abused is bad."
I let out a bitter laugh.
"Yeah, I know abuse is bad."
Tyler sighs heavily, and goes off to some room. He comes back with my clean clothes in his hands.
"Here. And you can keep the sweatpants and shirt."
I nod as a thanks and leave. Right now all I want is to be home.
...
As I get to my house, I can see my dad in the window. He's waiting for me again. This day is just great!
I hike my backpack up on my back further, and start walking to the park. I get to my beloved tree, and start climbing. Once I get to the top, I secure my backpack around a branch.
