The cold truth

"Derek..." she gasped and stared at the beautiful picnic that was set up. It looked over the water with the ferry boats going by. A small white blanket with a picnic basket and snacks stuffed full. She smiled and ran out onto the blanket and sat down, digging into the grapes and cheese.

"This is amazing!" She laughed and laid down. "I love you" she jumped on him and lathered him with kisses. He smiled and started feeding her grapes as she laid down.

"I love you more" he smiled. They laid together and looked at the clouds. "Look that one looks like a baby!" She pointed to one. He smiled and held her close. They laid there for about 1 hour until she fell asleep in his arms.

"Ma'am?" A woman shook her awake from her nap on the picnic. She sat up and saw a stain of blood drying on the white blanket beside her. Derek was gone.

"Your husbands been stabbed and was taken into Seattle hospital. Would you like us to take you?"

Meredith was shocked. She quickly got up and the officer helped her to the front seat.

They arrived about 20 minutes later and all Meredith could see was a trail of blood leading to a trauma room. She started tearing up as she was forced to wait in the waiting room for him.

Hour 1:
No sign of Derek. She had asked a nurse and they said they would find something out but they didn't come back.

Hour 2:
The hospital quieted down and she was the only one in the waiting room. She hadn't done anything other than stare at the blank wall.

Hour 3:
Meredith didn't know what to do. She had been texted saying the security had her children safe in the house in case the man who stabbed Derek was still on the loose.

A doctor finally came by and sat next to her. She looked like she carried an attitude and was Asian with black curly hair.

"Hi, I'm dr. Yang. Your husband was stabbed 4 times. Twice in the lower abdomen and twice in the chest. He coded 3 times and barley made it out alive. We have him in what is called a medically induced coma to help and let his body recover. However... because of the damage it could take a very long time for him to wake up after we lift the medication in a day or so. Usually after about 2 weeks and there's still no signs of life we give you the option of letting him go, I'm very sorry."

She touched Meredith's hand for reassurance and left. Meredith started tearing up and followed her to the ICU where Derek was.

"I'll let you guys be" she closed the door and left them alone. Meredith sighed and walked over to a chair beside his bed.

"Derek..." she whispered and pressed her hand to his cold cheek. "I love you. And I know you'll be ok. So please... let this baby have a father, and let me a have a husband" she kissed his forehead then sat there with him.

///4 days later\\\
Derek was taken off the coma 3 days ago. His heart rate has improved but he's coded 2 times already. Meredith was praying every night that he would be ok. His team was out looking for the man who stabbed him with the police.

Meredith was having really bad morning sickness and would only eat for the baby. She felt empty inside without him. The kids still had no idea where he was and she just said that their dad was on a business trip for a while. And hopefully he would be home soon...

It's been 12 days since they took Derek off the coma and still no signs of life in him. They where giving her papers to let him go tomorrow if that's what she wished.

"Derek I know your still there. I know you have a chance. Please... tomorrow their taking you away from me and I can't lose you. I can't lose you Derek! Your the love of my life. We're having a baby. You have to pull through. I know you can. And I love you so so much"

She laid down beside him and cried into his chest while holding his hand. "I'm so sorry Der... I can't lose you. Please fight for me. Fight for our little bean. Fight for our baby's. Fight for us." She whispered and fell asleep.

Meredith woke up at 4 am, forgetting she fell asleep. She got up and grabbed her coat off the chair and slipped her shoes on before hearing a noise. A coughing noise.

She turned around to see Derek running his tongue over his lips as if he was wetting them from being dry. He started opening his eyes a tiny bit. Meredith gasped and dropped everything.

"Derek! Oh my god! Oh my god!" She leaned down and held onto him. He coughed a little then patted her back with his hand.

"Water" he coughed. She jumped up and grabbed a cup with a straw for him to drink. "Oh I'm so happy your alive!" She sighed in relief. He smiled and kissed her cheek as she got up.

"I'm right here... I'm not going anywhere" he rubbed the top of her hand before a nurse came in.

"Mr. shepherd it is a miracle that you woke up, and you have had major abdominal surgery. So here's the papers. Avoid workouts for 2 weeks, no sexual intercourse for at least a month. And the others is just things to watch out for."

Derek nodded his head and looked over at Meredith as the nurse left the room. "No sex for a month... I'll be to fat to do anything" she started tearing up from the hormones. "Awe it's ok, we'll be back to each other soon" Derek smiled.

The nurse came in with discharge papers. Derek signed them immediately and before they knew it, they where home.

"Ok get in bed, I'll bring you up some soup in a moment"

"Ok" he smiled and replied. He made his way up the stairs and got into bed as Meredith made him some vegetable soup for him and walked up to their bedroom where he was just scrolling on his phone.

"Hey, I got your soup" she smiled and set it down on a tray beside him. He smiled and kissed her as she sat down beside him.

"Mm, I missed that" he smiled and kissed her again, this time with tongue. "We missed that too" Meredith smiled and held her stomach. Derek put his hand on her stomach and rubbed it as they both caught up on what has happened in the past 3 weeks

I'm sorry about the boring chapter but I'm doing a time jump to 1 month next chapter. So you know what that means...
