"I need your help with breaking into the King's chamber"

Jared knew that was the same thing he wanted to do, but he was curious about her reasons. "Why?" He asked.

"Reasons best known to me". She looked away.

"I'm sorry, my Lady, but I cannot help you if you don't tell me what the matter is". He turned his back on her, hoping she is pressured to open up to him.

"I don't know if I can trust you with this or if you will doubt me because he is your father". Her beautiful face was gloomy.

He turned to her. "Try me, my lady"

Her eyes traveled down to his bare chest. That was when he realized he had no shirt on. He quickly grabbed a shirt from his bed and put it on.
"Sorry about that, my lady". He apologized, a little embarrassed but glad that he still affected her in a way.

She continued,  "Beatrice is dead"

"What? How do you know this?"
He asked, not sure how to feel about it.

"I know because it happened right before my eyes".
She began to sob silently. An action that confused Jared. Isn't she supposed to feel anything? He thought.
"And Jude, he is gone too". She said again.

"Wait, what? So many things happened in my absence and no one informed me?"

"How could we? You are always out there trying to save Verthona. You forget your family"

"That's not true, everything I do, I do it for my family. Please tell me what happened".

"Beatrice tried to kill me but ended up killing her son. But before she died, she told me something very important. You might doubt me, but I don't think a dying woman would lie like that".

"Please tell me what it is, my lady". He urged.

"Your father is responsible for everything".
Kira finally let the cat out of the bag. A part of her feared that Jared would get mad and slap her across the face so she moved back a little.

But Jared was far from angry. Instead, he remembered what the regent had told him. A part of him feared that it could be true.
"What did she say about his chamber?" He asked.

"She said that all the secrets are hidden in his chamber. I have tried to sneak in, but... I don't think the palace gates have as much security as your father's chamber door. Guards are changed every hour, there is no way to get in". She said frustratedly.

"We will find a way".  He replied after much thought, much to Kira's surprise.

"Really?"  She asked.

"Yes, my lady".  His attention then went to the flames in the fireplace.  He creased his forehead as he was in deep thought.

"Stop calling me that". She grumbled, breaking his concentration.

"Pardon?"  He looked at her with questioning eyebrows.

"I said don't call me 'my lady'".

He kept his gaze on her face before his eyes involuntarily moved down to her lips, but he brought them back up to avoid any dilemma. "I will keep that in mind, my lady".
He then corrected himself. "I mean, princess Kira".

That did not make her feel better either, but she did not know how to say it. He was not even paying attention to her anymore... The one question that pulled at the hem of her mind was... "Have you met someone else?"
She bit down hard on her lower lip and internally cursed herself for letting the question slip out.

Jared was a little surprised but amused. "Well, not yet".

"Not yet? Do you plan to?" She asked with a grain of salt. Her heart broke at the chance of him falling in love with another woman.
