-Shelby pov-
It has been a hour and the lights finally blink. We are going into the stage. Everyone files out of the room and we make our way out. This is our shot at nationals.

Everyone makes their way in to the stage smiling. The hoosierdaddies were honestly not that bad. The waffletoots were no competition to either of our teams. I think it honestly came down to the solos.

"Ladies and gentlemen I have the judges votes right here!" The lady opens the envelope before speaking "In third place....We have the waffletoots! In first we have....our winners which are the Trouble Tones!"

We all celebrate as the trophy comes to us. The waffle guys seemed pretty happy with third. They gave us some handshakes and high-fives. The Hoosier team seems pissed though. I can not help if my kids were better.

We take our trophy and start to walk off stage. I notice the lead from Hoosier walk toward the mic. I stop and turn when I see her looking at me. She really is not about to do this is she?

"I want to solo challenge your team!" She really is gonna do it "Country song! Be it you or a student!"

"For the first place trophy?" She nods and I take a step forward "You are on! It will be me showing that I am just as capable as my students...showing that I am not the reason they are successful but the reason they know that they can trust me to help get better"

"Talking circles lady" She looks to the judges "This fine?"

"I see no reason we can not do this" The judges all shrug "Loser gets third place though? That fair?"

"Perfectly" I see the girl tense "Or are you too chicken?"

She scoffs and glares at me "I am no chicken!" She looks to the judges "It is fair! I am going first!"

I smirk as she stalks off to the band. She tells them something and then makes her way back to center stage. She has all of the confidence in the world. Too bad I think that could be her downfall.

-Freda singing-

You know I like my chicken fried
And cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up

Well I was raised up beneath the shade of a Georgia Pine
And that's home you know
Sweet tea, pecan pie, and homemade wine
Where the peaches grow
And my house it's not much to talk about
But it's filled with love that's grown in southern ground

And a little bit of chicken fried
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
I love to see the sun rise
See the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love

It's funny how it's the little things in life
That mean the most
Not where you live, what you drive
Or the price tag on your clothes

There's no dollar sign
On a peace of mind
This I've come to know
So if you agree
Have a drink with me
Raise your glasses for a toast

To a little bit of chicken fried
And cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
I love to see the sun rise
See the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love

I thank God for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly
Let it ring
Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives
So we don't have to sacrifice
All the things we love

Like our chicken fried
And cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
I love to see the sun rise
See the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love

Get a little chicken fried
And cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
I love to see the sun rise
See the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love

She smirks as she hands me the mic. I guess the audience is clapping after we sing. I walk to the band thinking of a good song to sing. I finally get one and tell them what to play.

I walk back to center stage and take a deep breath. Before they can start I walk back over and take guitar. They set me up a mic stand and I am now ready. I look at the club to see them all give a thumbs up.

-Shelby singing-

Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black-tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one you thought you'd see there

And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said, "Honey, we may be through,
But you'll never hear me complain."

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

Well, I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door

Hey, I didn't mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I'll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you're livin' in

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases
My blues away
And I'll be okay

The lady comes back up between us smiling. I look over at the club to see they are still ok. Win or lose I seem to have their approval. That is all I could have ever asked for.

"Alright!" She raises her hand near the girl "Who thinks she won?"

There is some applause for her and I see the fear. The lady moves her hand toward me and it picks up a lot. I smile as the girl slumps. She really does have great talent.

"Hey" I hold my hand out to her "You are good ok kid? You are very talented and if you want a future in music I am sure you could have it"

"Really?" I nod and she smiles "Thanks..you are good too for a old lady"

"Old lady?" She chuckles and I smile "Take care ok? You have a bright future I am sure of it"

She nods and walks backstage "Your winners!" The club comes back out and I am hugged by the group "Let's hear it for the trouble tones!"

The audience cheers but I do not really pay much attention. I am focused on the smiles of my kids and family. This is my whole life right here. I almost pushed some of it away this month.

I am going to get help with everything. I need to get help with everything. I can not risk losing my family again. I will be better for all of them.

For now I am gonna enjoy this win though.
