-CHAPTER NINETEEN-
OPHELIA

Seeing Tony work in the home library was probably the last thing I had expected when I went in.

When I realized he hadn’t noticed me just yet, I took a moment to see him, trying to not look like a total creep. But I really couldn’t help it.

He was sitting on one of the huge couches and was writing something on one of the million papers scattered on the tea table in front of him. He was wearing a dark blue suit pant and white shirt with sleeves rolled up his elbows, which accentuated his beautiful beautiful arms.

Tony was wearing his aviators and I loved how his nose scrunched every now and then in concentration. He really was, dare I say, one of the most beautiful men I had seen, and I couldn’t help but want to get to know him. The mere thought of him having someone else saddened me, before I quickly removed those thoughts out of my mind. Now wasn’t the time.

I quietly went over to the shelf where the book I needed was and took it out. My plans to sit and read in the library were ruined since I knew I needed to keep my distance from Tony, so I decided to head back to my room when his voice stopped me.

“You know if you’re trying to be discreet, you should lighten your footsteps. They give you away,” his deep voice sent shivers down my spine and I couldn’t help but smile at the thought of us having another conversation again.

I looked at him and saw that he was looking at me with his chin tucked under his fist, a small smile on his face. I smiled a little, “Any other tips to becoming a ninja?” He chuckled and the butterflies in my gut came alive at the sound of his laugh, “Not yet, no. But I’ll let you know when I learn more.”

I nodded my head a little, “I’ll be waiting.” His eyes went on my hands and he said, “Did you read the first two books?” I looked at ‘The Fire Witness’ in my hand and shrugged, “I did. And now Joona Linna has been added to my endless list of 'fictional characters I have a crush on'.”

He smiled brightly and I felt my heart beat faster, “I read the series in high school. I still do sometimes when I have the time, he always manages to surprise me.” I sat in front of him, “What do you like the most about him?”

Tony thought for a moment before eagerly answering, “His ability to just, figure the clue or solution out of nowhere. Like in ‘The Hypnotist', when he’s at Disa’s place after visiting Josef, he’s trying a pair of shoes which helps him realise-”

“That Josef was out of the coma and was able to walk around the hospital but he was hiding it,” I finished and smiled. “That’s my favorite quality too!”

We kept on talking back and forth about the series, and many other books which we had read and I was shocked to discover that his favorite genre was actually fantasy and fiction. His comfort trope was childhood bestfriends to lovers and he hated when people folded their books while reading.

I told him about my favorite genre, which was dystopian and fantasy, and how I didn’t specifically have a favorite trope, but if asked, I was likely to go for enemies to lovers. I told him how owning an incomplete series was one of my pet peeves and how much I loathed it when people dog eared their books.

We talked for almost one hour, and it was easy to say that it was the best hour of my life so far. When I talked about a character I liked, he would ask me why I liked it and what where it’s flaws, and then he asked me if I liked the character because of its flaws or despite it.

No one had ever taken an interest in books with the same level as me, and when we talked about his favorite non fiction book, I realized how easily the conversation between us was flowing, and a big part of me didn’t want to lose this somewhat friendship we had managed to develop so far.

When I left, I was surprised when he stopped me to ask for my number. “I know this is unconventional but.. Could I have your number?”

It had taken everything in me to not blush as I typed in my number in his phone, and I didn’t skip around in excitement that he had asked for it until after I had left the library.
