It was 4pm and Caiden hadn't heard from anyone in the house at all. Usually Florence would pop in to check for laundry but she was out for a day. He had gone down for breakfast to an empty kitchen, Robert not Kimberly anywhere to be seen, and the same thing happened at lunch. Caiden new they were together but he didn't want to admit it to himself.

He hoped that Kimberly hadn't fallen for his very own father.

He sighed to himself as he got out of his seat and headed for the door of his bedroom. He wanted a snack to clear his mind. Surely she wouldn't want my Father. She would much prefer me over my Father.

But just as he turned the corner into the kitchen he began to doubt himself. "Stop teasing me." Kimberly was sat on the kitchen island with Robert standing in front of her. Her back was facing Caiden, neither of the two knowing he was there. Robert was holding grapes, teasing Kimberly by pulling them away from her mouth before she could bite down.

"What are you doing?" He leaned up against the doorway, hands in his pockets as he eyed the two.

"Kimberly was peckish." Robert casually spoke.

Caiden rolled his eyes. "I'm talking about the obvious flirting."

"I'm allowed to do what I want."

Caiden wanted to fight back but didn't want to make Robert seem like the better man once again.

Kimberly was looking up into Robert's eyes as he glared at his son. Robert felt her eyes on him. He looked down at her, he felt smug, he felt like he was winning. He enjoyed that feeling. His lips lowered to Kim's but they didn't quite touch. "I need to do some work in my office before going into work tomorrow."

"Okay." She squeaked out, feeling totally and utterly under the man's spell.

"Be good." With that he placed a kiss on her forehead and began walking around the island and towards the door.

Kim quickly span around on the counter. "Uh... do you think I could join you?"

Robert turned to face her. She's interested in me. "Of course you can. Go pick out a book from the library and you can sit in with me."

"Thank you." She smiled a shining smile and left off down to the library to find a non-fiction book  that made her feel like she was in a fairyland.

Robert was about to leave the kitchen when the sound of her son clearing his voice caught his attention. "What now?"

"What're you playing at?"

"I'm sure you asked me that same question earlier but phrased differently." Robert turned to lock eyes with the younger boy.

"You know I wanted her, but of course you couldn't allow that." Caiden spat.

"Caiden, I really don't have time for this." Robert shook his head with a sigh and began walking down the hall. Childish.

"I'm not done." Caiden raised his voice as he followed. "Why do you always have to be so selfish? Why can't you just for once allow me to get the girl."

Robert turned on his heels. Caiden also stopped, leaving both men standing at least 10 Feet apart. "I think you'll find that if a girl doesn't want you, that is not my problem. You are childish, irresponsible, inconsiderate, inhumane."

Caiden chuckled darkly. "Me? Inhumane?" He slowly took a few steps forward. "You don't show emotion, you don't care for a single second how your own Son may feel. You only care for yourself. You fuck, you throw them away and that's what you're going to do with Kimberly!"

"I do care for you! I always have but when your mother left I went off the rails. What else would you expect?" Robert was honest. "And I won't do that to Kimberly, I-"

"You're a sick, old man who wants to take advantage of a naive girl. Admit it. You're perverted."

Robert laughed, taking a few steps forward until he was directly in front of Caiden. He swiftly grabbed his face, smacking his own Son's head against the wall. "You may paint me to be a monster, but I have never known someone to be as sick and twisted than you."

Robert turned back around and headed for his office, not wanting to hear a single word come from Caiden. Then his eyes caught Kimberly standing in the hallway, hand on a book, mouth agape in total shock. She didn't speak, but did he. He instead grabbed a hold of her wrist and pulled her along to his office.

The door slammed behind them. "What was-"

"Don't." He snapped. Then he breathed, calming himself. "I apologise. I didn't mean to snap. I just can't for a moment believe such an evil child came from me."

"I understand. Why don't you take a break? Relax a little?" Kim took a seat on the couch, watching as Robert stood leaning against the window of his office. Although Robert was angry, he still had a certain elegance around him that Kimberly loved.

Robert took a seat, looking at the girl who was making herself comfy on the red couch. "That's thoughtful, but my work relaxes me sometimes. Don't you worry about me."

Kimberly nodded and decided to keep quiet and read her book. She couldn't help but take continuous glances up at the man. She often dreamt that one day she'd meet the perfect man, someone who made her feel safe, loved, as if she was a princess. Was Robert it?

It's unlikely, but how can a little bit of trying hurt?
