Just a little chapter after the events from The Experiments AU book.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The wasteland, on the surface, was just a barren, defeated desert devoid of any flora or fauna, or just life in general.

Of course, you walked in on such a mess expecting as much, fearing that your miraculous second chance would be truly wasted in such horrid environments.

However, your expectations were proven very wrong, because, this planet- to your utter shock, was still teaming with life.

Just under the surface.

"Law!" You leaned over the toxic pool with furrowed brows, only frustrated further to see that the substance was too murky and thick to peer into.

Kidd made a low rumbling sound to signal his discomfort, but for the meantime you decided that reassuring Law's safety was more important than stroking the golem's protective instincts.

A decision that didn't take long to backfire.

Mere moments after shushing Kidd for the twelfth time, you were accustomed to silence, before two rubbery limbs hooked themselves upon you and abruptly dragged you from the pool.

Falling back into a massive claw, you thoughtlessly fell into the steely embrace long enough for the guilty party to gain a firm grip of you before coming to your senses.

"Kidd, Luffy!" You writhed in their hold, half-heartedly since you knew it was far too late to escape the golem's hold.

As expected, Kidd only growled in defiance, making sure to rub his thumb in soothing circles, as to avoid making you uncomfortable enough to exert your authority.

"You're.. too close.. Law said it be bad to.. let you too.. close" in between his words, the golem would mumble off into a breathy sigh and turn to Luffy for assistance, to which none was given.

Luffy was too preoccupied with carving a dip into the ground, most likely another makeshift nest to use and abandon on the fly, though this was the first time he's tried to make one himself.

"Luffy" you interrupted him, to which he listened but continued working, "there's no need for that, we're not staying here for long"

This time, the mutant did turn to you with a small pout screwed into his features, confusion evident by the small quirk in his brows, "but the sun is going down, see?"

Looking to where he pointed, you found that he was correct.

Despite having never seen the sun, it was still easy to tell whether it was night or day by watching for the colour of the sky, when the sun was at its peak, it glowed mostly in greens and yellows, and by night, they faded mostly to blues and reds.

At this moment, the greenish, yellowish, canvas of limbo was slowly leaning towards a more messy indigo by the minute.

Instantly being offput at the news, you turned back to the toxic pool and bit your lip worriedly, already jumping to the worst in your mind.

"Stop that" Kidd snapped, his words sounded harsh, but you knew better than anyone that they were only spoken so due to his own mounting emotions of negativity.

"Kidd.." you craned your neck upwards to face him, only to meet a stern, glassy frown, tucked neatly into his features not unlike with a small child.

"What's wrong buddy?" You gave his claw a comforting caress, one you knew he took great pleasure in, and was not disappointed to see him visibly relax.
