Winter is on her way downstairs as she heard whispers on the kitchen. She went there with heavy footsteps. And when she reached the opening, Giselle and Ningning are already having a fun conversation with her mother
"Oh Winter, you never told me you had so many friends!" Her mother sounded so enthusiastic, she wanted to roll her eyes and tell her she's only friends with Ningning but she tried her best to shut her mouth
"Is dinner ready?" Winter asked, sitting on a 6-seaters kitchen table
"Where's your manners, Winter! Introduced them to me, come on~" Her mother insisted, nudging her shoulders a bit
Winter clicked her tounge, "Mom, they can talk themselves why do I have to introduce them to you? Seriously? Let's eat,"
Ms. Kim slaps her hand lightly when she tried to dip the ladle on the brocolli soup.
"Let's wait for your other friend, isn't her name Karina? Hmm, now that I think about it, her face looked so familiar I feel like I've already seen her somewhere," Her mom thinks deeply, recalling something.
Then she snapped back to reality, "Girls sit sit," She flashed a friendly smile at the two
"Why do you have two luggages with you, Giselle? Are you going somewhere?" Ms. Kim asked with a friendly smile
Giselle laughed awkwardly, "Uhm we were planning to sleepover, you know just girls night! Is that okay with you Ms. Kim?" Giselle gave her best puppy eyes
"Shouldn't you be asking me that instead of asking my-" Winter sarcastically said but then was cut halfway
"Of course you can stay here," Ms. Kim obstruct
"Don't be rude Winter, they are your friends." Ms. Kim smiled sweetly at the two, "I am so happy Winter has made new friends,"
Winter decided to shut her mouth as she take a cold sip on her glass of water, letting her mom drown into her own delusions of her making new friends.
Karina entered with a wide smile finally done with taking a bath. Winter's eyes went to what she was wearing then she choked instantly. Karina is wearing her favourite oversized white hoodie which had an indecent design.
"Oh here is Karina but what are you wearing?" Ms. Kim raised her eyebrows, the friendly vibe earlier became gloomy
"I borrowed one from Winter's closet since Giselle was late to get my clothes, hehe I hope you don't mind." Karina explained
Ms. Kim glared at Winter who was already planning to take her leave.
"Winter, didn't I tell you to throw that hoodie away?" Ms. Kim cautioned
"Y-yeah, I guess it walked back to the closet. I remember throwing it already," Winter reasoned, Ningning and Giselle cackled at her lame excuse
'Of all clothes why do you have to pick that?' Winter thought while looking at Karina who looked confused
"Look at the design, it's too risqué." Ms. Kim bellowed
Karina interrupted their little conflict by clearing her throat.
"I can just change later, Miss. I'm sorry I didn't know. I found the design interesting so I wear it but I will change as soon as we finish eating." Karina smiled sweetly
"Of course, of course! It's not your fault hunny," Ms. Kim laughed
"Okay let's eat!" Karina sat beside Giselle, "So as I was saying earlier, I'm glad you made friends with these polite girls, you only brought two friends home and I wanted to ask you how you were doing at school but you look like you don't want to talk about-"
"Mom can we not talk about it?" Winter obstruct
They all started eating except for Ms. Kim who still kept going.
"One time Winter went home drenching in orange juice and when I asked her she said she accidentally spilled it on her uniform. I knew she was lying." Ms. Kim became piqued
Karina gagged in the middle of eating.
Winter smirked, 'Karina was the reason mom,' she spoke inside her head
"Oh my, are you okay?" Ms. Kim worriedly asked
Karina gave her an uneasy smile as she nodded her head. Not wanting to answer because of guilt. Her gaze went to Winter who's also staring at her, she quickly averted her gaze.
"May I ask something Karina?" Ms. Kim intrigued
Karina nodded her head, taking big bites on the chicken leg.
"Are you related to Mr. Yoo? The CEO of Damzel Corporation?"
Karina and Giselle frozed instantly, Ningning and Winter caught their reaction but then they brushed it off.
The atmosphere became tensed and serious in just a matter of seconds.
Karina puts her hand down the table and wiped her mouth with a napkin. She forced a smile at Ms. Kim before answering.
"Yes, he's my father actually." She replied
"Wow, now I know why you look so familiar." Ms. Kim was so amazed
"Are you working for my father at the moment?" Karina questioned
"Yes, he's a great CEO. Everybody loved him, he's nice and thoughtful." Ms. Kim replied
Karina and Giselle wanted to laugh because they both knew the CEO she's talking about is a real monster behind closed doors but they kept their mouth shut anyways. They both don't know if Ms. Kim's only saying nice things to the CEO because she knew Karina is his daughter or because she's genuinely believed the CEO is really nice.
They both knew Mr. Yoo's public facade so it's maybe the second option.
"That's nice. Please take care of yourself when he's around." Karina said with a double-meaning, only Ningning and Winter caught on.
"Also, Karina. Your father is looking for you, did you have conflict with your dad?" Ms. Kim worriedly asked
Karina gripped the napkin tightly, feeling the wrath inside her.
Ningning and Winter caught her hand shaking. Giselle held Karina's hand tightly to calm her down.
"It's just a small argument, I'll talk to him soon, but please don't tell him you know something about me if he asks you. Please Ms. Kim," Karina said, a hint of desperation was heard from the tone of her voice.
"Of course, I'm not in the position to tell him that and he's not talking to employees in the middle of work." Ms. Kim retorted
"His secretary was fired again, it's the 5th time this happened at work. Rumours said they tried to steal something on Mr. Yoo." Ms. Kim sighed
Karina gritted her teeth in anger, "He's doing it again," She whispered which only Giselle heard
"Karina, you should talk to your dad after this. I think he's having a hard time at work, afterall he's been a good boss to us eventhough he had been struggling as a CEO himself," Ms. Kim can't just keep her mouth shut
Karina forced a smile, "Will do." She replied
"Mom, stop asking her questions. You should let her eat, and eat your food. You didn't stop talking since earlier," Winter grunts
"Hehe, of course hun of course." Ms. Kim replied as she started eating
They eat in silence.
Winter never stopped scrutinizing Giselle and Karina's weird expressions.
They looked bothered... and scared.
