The sheriff brought the scoundrel up on the gallows and wrapped the noose around his neck. With the whole town watching, the sheriff grabbed the lever for the trap door. He turned to the scoundrel, moments before the execution, and asked, "I'm thinking of a word."

"What?" the scoundrel said, confused.

"I'm thinking of a word," the sheriff repeated. "If you guess it one letter at a time then I'll let you go free."

The scoundrel scowled. "I am a—"

The sheriff pulled the lever and the scoundrel dropped.


"Sorry," he said. "There wasn't an I, M, or A."
