The alarm clock knew his job and was happy with it. He just had to yell at a given time once a day. Six o'clock on the nose. That was it. Simple. Six o'clock came around and he...AHHHH! That was why his owner bought him. To do this one job. So he didn't understand why he was beaten every time he did it. Beaten, smacked, punched. He loved his owner and wanted to make him happy. So why did he treat him so harshly? The clock didn't know. But he continued to do his job. Day in. And day out.
