Everybody knew this world of ours would get hotter. How hot, though, nobody could predict. The temperature rose and rose to sweltering levels, oppressive in every way. People thought it would eventually stop. They were wrong. Neither pool nor drink could cool them down. Their sweat practically non-existent. Everything evaporated. The air scorched all. Power lines. Roads. Even the homes that provided shelter from the brutal sun. The world came to a halt. The fever grew so much that nothing could survive. All life on Earth was burned away, their bodies melted into the ground until only the heat remained.
